February 10th, 2012 | by Admin |Well, I decided to purchase the Clear 4g Home Modem last week after being advised not to by one of the best buy employees in the cell phone department. But, I (like a dumbas) went against my better judgement and sign a contract with clear after the sales person showed me 10+ Mbits/sec on her Speedtest.net Test.
When I initially starting using the device everything was great. I was getting about 9 Mbits on average in downoad speeds. then about 3 days later it was down to half of that. Then I decided to download a 1gb Application that I needed for my programming class at school and suddenly my connection was being throttled to a ridiculously low speed. 0.5 Mbits!!!!!! WTF!! I can tether my iphone to my laptop and get speeds better than that!!!
So, I decided to call customer support about my speeds and the retarded sounding outsourced worker tells me that there is “Network Congestion”….. at 1 in the morning. I proceeded to tell her that her answer was highly unlikely to be the case. Then she tells me that it’s because of some “management system” that throttles “Heavy Users” so that the network can remain stable. She tells me that I have to Unplug my modem for 24 hours then plug it back to get my speeds back to normal.
Well… after about 36 hours I plug it back in and test the speeds and i’m still getting 0.2 – 0.6 Mbits per second. I will be canceling the service today. I refuse to put up with this unacceptable service. At $54 per month that they charge, I shouldn’t have a problem w/ throttling or “network congestion”. This is as much as a fucking broadband cable bill. And while I didn’t expect broadband speeds exactly, I did expect it to be consistent with semi-decent service. But this was not at all the case.
I live in a dorm at my university and the tower is placed just outside of campus, so there is no excuse for the poor speeds or “network congestion”. I feel like the company is only here to take advantage of kids who are at my university and are desperate for an alternative to the horrible internet that the school provides them. If you’re desperate like I was in needing an internet solution that’s mobile…. DO NOT CHOOSE CLEAR! Save yourself the time and frustration and avoid this company at all costs. Pay attention to the submissions on this website because they are %100 True!
