This is my Yelp link

I signed up at the urging of someone I knew who was marketing this product. What attracted me to this product was the portability and and ease of set-up. In addition to the home modem, you also get an air card to be remote on the internet anywhere. It costs me close to 70 per month, but I do have two devices. Unfortunately I have been less than impressed by this product for home use. I previously had internet service with DirecPath. I was getting download speeds of 10+ mbps and upload speeds around 5. It was adequate for streaming video and online gaming. Plus I have a server I use for purposes of high speed data transmission.

Unfortunately the performance of Clear has been less than stellar. I would have download speeds of less than 1mbps and uploads were quite dismal. I cannot stream video or do online gaming without experiencing huge latency. I am not being blocked by hills or trees, and I live near a cell tower about a mile away. Even with the home modem outside on my patio with no window or wall obstruction, I still receive comparable performance

There are times I will get anywhere between 3-5 mbps download speeds but that is about the best I can get on this home modem. It is still unacceptable given the high speed service available from Comcast, AT&T and others. I do expect the air card to perform this way, but not a “high-speed” home modem to do so. So I must consider this unacceptable.

My recommendation is to stick with your home service with Comcast and AT&T and pick up an air card as a secondary internet connectivity source. Clear isn’t ready for prime-time and when they get their speed issues worked out, I would avoid this as a primary internet service. It sucks because now I am locked into this substandard internet service for 2 years and will have to pay penalties if I break the contract.

BTW, I just did a Speedtest and this is the result -

.

*********This is a follow-up I wrote a few days ago.

After a couple of outages within the past week and even worse speed and ping tests, I have decided to cancel this joke of an ISP. I rely on the internet to do work related activities and this is a complete joke. If there was a “no-star” rating I would give it one. For close to $70 per month it’s too expensive. I rather pay more for a Sprint aircard and Comcast at this point. Now I have to end up heading to a Starbucks or somewhere else where there is wireless to get on the internet. I encourage anyone considering Clear to stay far from them. I am convinced they are nothing but a fraud and if you work for them or a reseller, good luck getting paid.

I have restarted the modem and PC several times today and these are the results I am receiving. The simply don’t have the ability to serve their customers or enhance their network. It seems they are signing up all the customers they can swindle and then improve the network at a later time. Clear reminds me of how AOL was in the mid 90′s. If they anticipate being bought out completely by a cell phone carrier or cable company, I implore them to stay away.

Agreed, the biggest tech buy mistake of my life. So much for being an early adopter. The service is crap, today i am barely eeking out a speed of .30 MBit.. Stellar? I think not. Oh and that is when the service is actually up and ‘running’ It’s not uncommon for it to go down every 1, 2, 3 minutes, or seconds for that matter.

I do not recommend signing up for CLEAR unless you have low expectations.

We were very disappointed in Clear Internet. Their modem is not compatible with Mac 64 bit, which is the latest technology. We called their tech support and they seem clueless about what Clear supports and what they do not support.

Stephanie, look online on how to switch from a 64 to a 32 bit mac, it is VERY easy to do. And your modem will work. I do NOT work for clear, I hate clear.
