User Submission by Carl M.

January 2nd, 2010 | by Tim |

I have clear home & mobile Internet service. At first the service seemed great & I got rid of my cox cable internet. Clear began sending me messages, that my home internet usage was hurting my neighbors. So I cut back on my internet usage. Then my speeds began to drop off week by week & now it is almost useless. I am paying for 6mb down 500kb up unlimited. I am receiving 200kb-500kb down & 15kb-20kb up. I have tried unplugging the modem, rebooting the computer nothing works. I have plugged the modem into my second computer same problem for over a week. I am seriously getting ripped off. I am hoping you people can help me. If so please reply.

You are being throttled. If they think you use “too much” bandwidth, they make your modem work worse than dialup. In other words, if you use what you are paying for, they cut you back. Go back to Cox, you will glad you did. I used to work for them so I know what I am talking about.

Yeah What they did to you is called ” Traffic Shaping “. So, when the end user (you:) is using more bandwidth than the pre determined maximum amount allowable the company slows your speed down & sends you those stupid emails or letters. Saying that your on a shared network & please secure wi-fi routers & peer to peer settings. Doesn’t sound too unlimited now huh… LOL. All I can say is try to speak with someone in management about this & read over your terms of service. If you did agree to this you have to live by that rule or cancel & get Cox back…
