Clearwire Las Vegas – User Submission by Clearwire Whistleblower
August 18th, 2009 | by Admin |Just to lanch by August, Clearwire Breaks the Law!
Market: Las Vegas, Nevada
Clearwire built sites without zoning or BP’s. They directed all their staff to be very discreet in this process. Clearwire built un-permitted sites in the City of Henderson and the City of Las Vegas. But the crazy part about all this, is that Clearwire located on Nevada Energy Poles without said permits. Clearwire told all their “partners” and contractors to hush and don’t say a word! This was all done to launch in time for the August deadline.
The City of Henderson has already contact Clearwire to de-construct their so called “temp site” location in Henderson. What would Clearwire do if the local newspapers found out?

Their terrible customer service is going to ruin them. Their 800 number told me that they don’t have a corporate office in Vegas. Her name was Fana. She was RUDE. She told me to go buy Cox cable instead. She said for me not to sign up with Clearwire in Vegas. She then connected me to her friend Heidi, who said the same thing to me.

Clearwire refuses to let customers know where their towers are. Customer service reps say to the customers on the phone that they are not allowed to let customers know where the towers are because they are afraid the customer is going to vandalize the tower. This customer service rep insulted me and I am not going with clearwire just because she insulted me and accused me of wanting to vandalize one of their towers when all I wanted to know was where the nearest tower was because I was only getting one bar when I was suppose to be getting five bars. WHO THE HELL DOES CLEARWIRE THINK THEY ARE TO INSULT HONEST PEOPLE AND ACCUSE OF OF WANTING TO DAMAGE THEIR STUPID TOWERS. WE ARE CUSTOMERS AND I THINK WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO KNOW WHERE THE NEAREST TOWER IS SO WE CAN POINT OUR MODEM TOWARD IT TO GET A BETTER SIGNAL!!!!!

Don’t be fooled, it seems cheap but it gets expensive. You will want to cancel their service and will be forced to either pay the cancelation fee or will end up paying for two service provides: One that works and Clearwire.
Clearwire takes advantage of people with their advertized “up to” speed and their 2 year contract. Unless you live in a Clearwire tower you won’t get anything close to the advertized speed and commonplace use of the internet will be highly impaired. That is right- you MUST live in a Clearwire tower to get a descent internet speed… That is close to what a Clearwire customer service specialist suggested. He told me that I can get a more adequate upload/download speed if I do the following when locating the antenna in relation to a Clearwire tower: Place the antenna facing the exact direction of a tower and have no structures between your antenna and the tower. So, there will be lots of changes in my house and in my neighborhood… Actually the neighborhood has to go. They are impairing my service.
Clearwire does SUCK!
Thank you for helping spread the message!

Ok, this website made me push, and I mean push hard.
We have been trying to cancell with clearwire since july 16th (last time the modem was on) and they didnt give me the means to do such.
we woke up this morning to over 100 bucks taken out of our bank account freaking out about more important bills (food, rent, power) contacted customer service which was no help.
I then got a wild hair and decided to call the corporate office in Washington. A little bit of scariness to the receptionist got me to Laurie Witcher the manager for corporate escalations.
I live in their Reno market. After mentioning possible press coverage (Reno is tied with Vegas, Sacramento, and San Fransisco) Laurie Witcher advised me that my account will be credited back the money with in 15 minutes and I am now allowed to return the equipment to the store where we signed up for service.
They kept telling us it was our computers that were the problem (I am a laid off Network Administrator) however we have switched ISP and havent had any of the downtime or 7k pings that we had with clearwire. Dont back down from these people. The are now under the sprint banner and sprint prides its self on customer service.
By the way, We have contacted the FTC for unfair trade practices, however they said they need more complaints. File a complaint with the FTC as soon as possible.

I tried it out for a day, and then returned the equipment and cancelled my account. Despite being promised that it works all over town, it didn’t. I drove the box around to my office, and 5 different friends houses. It worked NOWHERE! The best I ever saw was one single bar or signal strength.
I have no doubt that this technology will be great someday. That day just doesn’t seem to be today.

You’re right. My modem is constantly showing all 4 to 5 lights and my internet speed is so slow I seldom access it from home. If I have to use my home service, I click on the internet and then vacuum a room before returning to click on whatever, then return to vacuuming while it comes up. Now they’re sending out these new super duper faster modems. What do you think about this new claim?

Toni: I have the new modem I recieved it in Aug. The 1st 3 weeks were super fast. Then around the 1st of sept. the speed dropped to .50 average. It has been a month and a half and still no improvement. I get 3-4 bars .75 miles from tower. A engineering rep came to my house Fri oct 17th could not figure out why my speed was so slow. I pay for 3.0 service and get .50 He said he would call the tower maintenance to check the equipment. Haven’t heard from them since.

9/18/09 after being bombarded with Clear mailings, TV ads & signage all over Vegas, I decided to give them a try to see if Clear phone & internet service would surpass my current Embarq landline & DSL. First, the salesman refused to honor the promotinoal pricing in the mailing. Secondly, I never received the package with modem that was supposed to arrive within 7 days. SEVEN WEEKS LATER; While walking through Best Buy, saw a Clear display & salesperson. He couldn’t even find ANY record of my 9/18/09 orders & suggested i phone an 800#. I asked him about sending & receiving faxes over Clear VOIP. he couldn’t answer and tried to phone a manager. 8 HOURS LATER, he called me to say that computers had been down all day. Bottom Line: Anybody who signs up for Clear is CLEARLY an idiot!

I have this Clear service for about a month now and I think it sucks! My computer is extremely slow and I am constantly losing my internet connection while trying to get work done on my computer! I was also sent a second router which I never ordered. They have finally taken it off my credit card but I have no idea where to send the router to. The address 1051 Mary Crest Rd., Henderson, NV 89074, does not exist! So I am assuming that I have to pay for shipping to get rid of this thing?? I hate this service and I am going to cancel or at least try to.

My download speed just peaked at 20 KBPS.
This is a sad time to be a programmer…

You are correct–
Clear is a sham–a fake, a phoney. I live a mile from a transmission tower and the is no power to the transmission tower–in the direction of the domicile…They don’t know if they will ever send a maintence man to repair.
–Furthermore at the Rainbow Corporate Store the manager in a mean spirited petty way told me to leave go home and call the 800 number…
He is a liar–the organazation is a fraud…
They are a chickenshit organazation.

I have been trying cancel due to I purchased thru An indirect dealer in Atlanta who completely lied to me about everything and then I called accoutrements services and ended up having to talk to a supervisor joy who was co
pletely unhelpful then had to call back to speak to another service rep Jesse I think somewhere in Florida and over and over tried to cancel and he just wouldn’t seem to let me then finally got him to cancel me and then I got billed again last week to call back again to find out I had not cancelled and I was apparently suppose to be finding someone to take over an account I hve never or used or wanted so after speaking to another representative in technical support Karen who was actually pretty great but I just wanted to cancel so she got me to Ruby who finally got me cancelled an stopped the billing. When someone wNts to cancel just let them cancel..dang why the hassle

After three years of working with Clear trying to make their system work reliably, I gave up and cancelled them. I have them 1 1/2 months notice, paid my bill thru the cancelled date and ported my phone to another provider. Now I am getting daily harrassing calls from them, threatening me with bad credit reports, claiming I owe them $15. for early termination Fees. They in fact owe me money for overcharging me for lease payments beyond the specified period. These people have no clue what they are doing. Their chat line is a joke for service, you can never reach them on their customer service line and when you do they have ALL their facts wrong. For example; I am receiving calls that they are going to cut off my service unless I pay the bill. My service was changed over one month ago. I have filed a report with the AG of our State. These people just have to quit with false advertising, giving misleading statements and start telling the customers the truth. Craig McCaw would not put up with this kind of service from a vendor, I know because I used to be a vendor to him.

CLEAR is now actively deleting negative comments about their actions on the Clear forum and Facebook! It’s a laugh riot! So many people are pissed off with Clear’s crappy service and under handed business practices, they can’t keep up with the TRUTH getting out. Their stock closed today at a new low of $3.02 per share. Complete failure is getting closer.

I got Clear because the guy at the mall said it’s awesomely fast and he said the speed was 20Mbps. What the hell? He was talking out of his ass, it’s 1.5Mbps with a 90ms latency, and that’s with 4 to 5 bars.
Clearly not as fast as they made it out to be. At this speed it might be worth about $10/mo or maybe $20/month at most, but they wanted $45/mo. No.

Some one needs to file a class action law suit with these people.
This is exactly why free market republicans HATE consumer protection agency’s.
I don’t recommen Clear to anyone,…period.

I highly suggest you keep an eye on your credit report.
You should hope they ding your credit. If they do they are in deep dodo.
Keep an eye out,.. and sue the B-Jesus out of them.
The law has NO tolerance for this.

Of course they don’t want you to know where their towers are. The public is so pissed off at them, many would probably shoot them out. They hang their equipment on Sprint towers, at least they do where I live.
I am .08 miles from the tower and my service sucks.
