Same song different singer – User Submission by Martin B.

May 7th, 2009 | by Admin |

I joined clearwire in October 2005, at a Blues festival in Modesto. I saw a guy in the back of a van on the internet using his clearwire modem and thought “This is cool, I want that”. So I signed up then and there and
went home happy that I had this wireless solution to “High speed Internet”. I was soon disappointed, as the modem could only pick up 2-3 bars if I placed it on top of my monitor at an angle pointing North, it works better
next to an open window, of course, but I live in an area that gets to 115 degrees in the summer, so open windows are not going to happen. I was fairly satisfied with the service and got used to moving the modem
around, I never tried down loading anything large and mostly used it for E-mails and maps. Then apparently I signed up for another two year contract by accepting a 29 dollar discount for that privilege. I don’t
recall this event.

In November 2008 I called Clearwire to cancel the service and was informed that I still had until May of 2009 to the end of my contract and early termination would incur an “early termination fee” of $184. So I decided to wait until May to cancel. I called today May 7th 2009 and was told that the contract is not over until September 2009 and there was still the early cancellation fee of $184, if I keep paying I will “only” pay $140. The fact is that I haven’t used clearwire for at least six months and have no need to use it, I signed up with AT&T U-Verse and have their internet service. I had a period when Clearwire was impossible to log into as they
were having “technical difficulties” for about 6 weeks. I quit using the e-mail service then and have never used it since. How do I get out from under? Do I just quit paying and mess up my messed up credit more? Do
they have any legal binding by my use of their service?

Clearwire truly does suck, by their parasitical contracts and lack of service.
Sincerely
Martin B.

I went to a Radioshack on Sahara Ave/Maryland Parkway in Las Vegas and was sold on signing for a Clearwire service by the salesman. He told me this was the technology of the future. I tried it the whole afternoon and into the evening and the next day I returned it. I was told that I couldn’t return the modem to Radioshack but had to call a number and follow their instructions. I did as I was told but not before explaining to the salespeople there why I was cancelling my contract. I discovered that the so-called “technology of the future” involving Clearwire and wimax involved endless hangs and endless reboots . Everytime I had to reboot my laptop the Clearwire software won’t recognize the usb modem, so I had to reinstall the driver again and again. It was a nightmare. Fortunately, I got my money back. Still, the manager of Radioshack snootily told me I was the only one who found fault with the service. Really!?
