I am having the same problem with the Clearwire cancellation policy. I told them I moved to my parents’ to help with my sick grandmother and they do not offer service there. When I tried to cancel last month (March), the woman I spoke to told me they couldn’t reduce the cancellation fee but I should post an ad on Craigslist in Alaska (I live in WA) to try to get a “Change of Responsibility”, in which case my fee would be waived. She assured me they get responded to in two days, maximum. I tried for a month in several different cities, and never got a response. So I tried yesterday to cancel again, but they had already run my card for May’s payment. I disconnected the modem on April 4, settled on having to pay for April anyways, but now they are making me pay for May PLUS the cancellation fee. They will not apply the may payment to that fee and they told me it is because there is a 7 day period after a payment is made to decide to cancel. While I called within that period, I can’t drop my modem off at a store, I have to mail it to the manufacturer, and it would arrive outside of that grace period. All the representatives have been rude and unhelpful, as well as often offering conflicting information.
Also, the connection was always horrible. It was slow and I got kicked off, often for hours at a time, at least once a day. My boyfriend/roommate is a journalist who works from home a lot and it really hurt his work. If anyone knows how/if I can get in on that lawsuit, let me know!

Not only do they suck but they also screw people in other ways. We installed a fire alarm in one of their buildings and when we were done with the job they refused to pay because of some fucked made up excuse.

I would post a comment, but my connection keeps dropping. I’ll write more as soon as I can afford to switch providers…

Clearwire SUCKS! I pay money for this crap that doesn’t even work, and I CANNOT cancel it. YAHOO free mail or GMAIL is better than this!!! I cannot even READ my email! It says my account does not exist, and I am STILL paying for it!
THANK YOU for filing a lawsuit!
I APPRECIATE it!

I tought i was alone.
But I see clearwire is really trying to commit suicide.
They do not realise that if we decide to cancel, is cause we are not happy with them and they are not the only game in town.
i have a lousy conection (had it for months.
It took 2+ hrs to upgrade my itunes, that will give u an idea of how bad they are.
And they are rude and very unpolite.
I think they are on breach of contract when they do not deliver what they promise, fast internet service.
If there is a way to join the lawsuit, please post it.

I too have been fambuzilled by Clearwire. I had to move out of my appartment that was .5 miles from their over saturated tower, to a basement appartment, where i can get NO connection and apparently i am 3 miles away from the tower and up a creek! they keep charging me for the service, but i can’t even use it, CUZ IT SUX! I have a friend that works at a bank and she says the only way out of it is to open a new account with a different account number! What a waste of time, but i feel it may be my only choice at this point, i am a single parent with four children, & cannot afford to pay the cancellation fee all at once, i would rather drag it out, just as they have!!!

Yes, my story is much the same as everyone else. I however Knew what they were going to do before they were going to do it. I had already read all the complaints while still on their service…Ha Ha Ha. So we actually were on the phone with them while sitting in front of our bank officer after we moved all of our money so they couldn’t get it. Our bank officer in front of a cop tried to reason with them. Scamers, stopped in their tracks. However we do still get that 300 something dollar bill… Which is a joke. I was wondering how do you get that removed from a credit report if they are known, discovered, and prosecuted to be fraudulent. Wouldn’t they have to remove it from all of our credit reports?
Every time I see them parked outside of wal-mart or at a kiosk in the mall my stomach tenses up.
Take your modem if you still have it and put it under your car tire, or get out your twenty guage and fix some of your frustration. How dare they say that the modem is worth hundreds of dollars when it is only worth as much as a paper plate with a stick and aluminum foil for the reception it gets. No really it is pointless to return it.
Lets say you have att, bellsouth, bell… or whatever. When you initally get service you may be charged for a modem…it is usually yours after that…why, because it would be stupid for them to get that back so they could spend more money to refurbish it.
The only way to really send it back though is to certify the delivery so that they can’t get out of that. Can you say “Doesn’t play well with others in the sandbox” The guy who owns this company is just as bad if not worse that Bernie Maddoff, after all we are the little , poor to middle income people who they think can’t fight back, but they apparently were wrong and probably have underestimated us all.
I am in Florida, I would be happy to put my name in with a class action lawsuit here.

I would like to join in on the class action lawsuit. My signal strenth varies & and reponse
is ridiculous. They are sending out someone to check the signal today. i phoned into to the tech center. They dont even keep a record of your calls.I wiil update with info on the signal testing.Keep you legs crossed.
By sisterverna on May 18, 2009 | Reply
I have just moved to an area where I can’t get a signal, unless I hang my laptop over the edge of my patio, and then the signal is only acceptable. I was also told to try and sell my contract to avoid a $180 fee. I can’t afford to pay $57 a month for something I can’t use.

Failwire is the biggest pile of shit. I have not connected in days on end for the 2 years i have had it, I have to leech off a neighbors signal half the time because of it. You call in , you get genius ideas like “sir have you tried unplugging the modem” ? NO ” NO NOT AT ALL , HOW COULD ONE EVER FATHOM SUCH A TACTIC”? Clearwire has clearly had their fucking skulls unplugged. This twat then has me drag the modem from room to room in my house testing out to see how many bars i get. Well when it finally connects in the bathroom by the window he goes “ok sir than you for using clearwire” HAHA !!!!! I go “yeah , because i signed up to run my internet in my fucking bathroom!” he’s like “well it will have to do till we get someone out there” NO MOTHERFUCKER it wont DO. They then want to inconvenience your day by sending some filthy asshole pig to tromp his muddy shoes all over your carpet to “test why the signal doesn’t work” why doesn’t it work? because its a useless piece of shit ! The guy who set up my service also SLIPPED OUT WITH BOTH SETS OF PAPERWORK so i have no proof or info that i’m even on their service for a magnificent lifetime of credit card charges. Next time i step into a clearwire office im going to spit in someones fucking face. As i write this i currently still have one failing bar of service on this modem ! That’s the most you’ll ever get unless its in your bathroom! (according to clearwire)

Thank y’all so very very much for taking the time to let us non customers in on what a horrible situation you are in with c wire.
Saw their rep at a flea market in Jacksonville last weekend and was fixin to sign up but after reading all these horror stories suddenly AT&T doesn’t sound quite so bad after all. Geez.
Appears to actually be criminal behavior on their behalf.
Thanks for making your pain our gain. Sorry y’all. Keep up the good fight!

ok i’m sitting here because i was watching a movie on netflix and my ‘internet connection slowed’ so there’s a nice 5 hour gap in the movie while i wait for stupid clearwire to catch up. i hate clearwire, i never knew there were so many people who felt the same way! it’s maddening i want to throw that stupid black box out my window.
is there another service that i can get that’s affordable and fast? i pay $35 a month now, but i wouldn’t mind paying more if it were faster. faster than clearwire isn’t saying much but i don’t want to keep giving them my money, although it sounds like they won’t let you out of a contract. jerks. oh, and my building isn’t wired for cable. any suggestions?

I am in the same position as Lisa. I cannot stop them from deducting the fee from my account unless I close my account and open a new one. This internet service is the worst I have ever encountered. Best Buy offered this service at the time I bought my laptop and had been assured that ‘this is the best in servers you can find!. That was in December 2007. I fell for it and what a sucker I’ve felt like since. At this point I will take the ding on my credit report. That can all be explained with a letter when applying for a loan or other dealings. I would like to join in this lawsuit. Please e-mail me with the information. Thank you all.

Like Terri, i was suckered in by best buy that clearwire was the best thing around, they were so wrong. I have moved out of the Anch, area, and they said that they didn’t cover the matsu area, and i’m stuck with paying $66 dollars a month, and that i would have to pay the fee of a 195.00 dollars for disconnecting the contract early:(…………Their signal sucked even before i left anch, and they don’t cover the area i live in now. like Terri i think i’ll just close my account!

Same story here. I signed up for service in Moscow, Idaho. I’m moving 80 miles away and they don’t have service there. They won’t let me out of the contract. The connection has never been very good. Definitely not what they report it to be with periods of no connection at all no mater where I move the modem. Stay away from Clearwire. They are not worth the fight. Go with someone else.

When I first got clearwire I couldn’t believe how slow it was but I knew very little about connection speeds. I called Clearwire and they said how many lights are on your modem, I told them three to four. They said well that is good this should be no problem. I told them I can barely check my email because it will time out it is so slow and I had to cancel movie download memberships I had because I could not download them even after several hours it would time out. Finally a friend told me about speed connection tests on the internet. For over a year I have been paying for a service that I’m getting less than half the speed of. I called Clearwire was on the phone for 2hours! They wouldn’t reimburse me and couldn’t help. I called back later and they said that there notes of my account said they had satisfied me on the last call I had made to them to complain. They will no let me out of the contract even though I have proved I have been getting less than half the speed I should be getting which is comparable to dial up. I am so frustrated. Kate

Clearwire is the biggest piece of shit known to mankind. Craig McCaw is a fucking billionaire asshole trying to recreate his Nextel success…I hate the whole thing, $47.00 a month for speed that is slower than my PacBell Dial Up back in 2000…Customer support is awful and they all sound retarded…even worse I worked for them for about a month and got an inside look at how idiotic and deceitful the company truly is, please sue the shit out of them for all of us who have been jerked around by this company. The modem is a horsey piece of shit, and is slower than my grandmothers bowels…Please pass along the message, I do ever chance I get.

I have had clearwire since December and got it for my wife to have internet so I could talk to her while I was in Afganistan. I called once to find out why I couldn’t talk to her and she told me the internet wasn’t working correctly. I have tried calling repeatedly and they always tell me that my signal is strong, however, it takes me 10 minutes to get to each site I try to look up. The first 7 day trial I was able to get on xbox, but when you call them from Afganistan and tell them your wife is having problems, they will be more then happy to hang up on you. Thank you clearwire! I really do appreciate the help. I tried to be nice when I got back, regaurdless how ticked off I was, and they just tell me the same thing I keep hearing: “Good signal”, “don’t understand the problems”, and “Have you tried speedtest.net? No, those numbers can’t be right.” Wouldn’t recommend this to my worst enemy. If you have it too and are trying to get rid of it, Sorry for you too and good luck. -Bob

Just tryed to watch a Netflix film and that was an absolute travesty. If there truly is a lawsuit going please sign me up.

I live in Jacksonville, Florida. I have lived here for 4 years and I must say that it has the “weirdest” infrastructure of any of the dozen US cities I have lived in. JAX is the only city I know of that is actually on top of its traffic problems, the roads are fantastic. Garbage pickup is provided by the city, whether its one little bag or a huge pile of tree branches… it will be gone the next day. The sherriff’s dept. is open for debate.
But the utilities are off the charts BAD. JEA (electric) has billed me a $435 deposit due on my next bill because I requested and recieved a 10 day extension on a bill 3 months ago, I call in to discuss…they hang up. Comcast (cable) No TV but the internet is working, or most often TV was on but internet was out (talking about everyday here, clear skies) call in…they promise $20 credits that never show on the statement. ATT/Bellsouth (phone) DSL about twice the speed of dialup and constantly had issues with firewalls (turned them all OFF) and open ports on my router, completely unreliable.
THANKS, I needed to vent.
Now for Clearwire. I have a download range of between 6KB and 140KB. Im supposedly paying for 1.5 but whatever, at least its always on. I just have been slowly conditioned to except such shitty service from everywhere. I visit my sister in Tampa and her lowest package Bright House broadband will scream at 800KBs. Just so frustrating.
I am not an old man, (28) but this country is going down the tubes very quickly and its sad.

Clearwire is horriable. I with all of you on this. I tried to do research and everything on the best internet service and now both myself and my roomate are trapped in this two year contract. We work at a retail store there is no way we can afford the cancel fee. So here we are stuck for another year.

I wish to add my woes about clearwire. I have a problem with trying to pay them other than the use of a credit card. I cannot pay them by electronic check as they require a credit check and I do not pass so they deny my payment by check. I cannot send payment by mail they do not accept that form of payment. I cannot pay them directly in their offices, they say I can wire them money via western union for a fee. They charge a fee for changing a credit card number. Plus to top it all off I cannot even take the remote back! I have to mail it to them. Why if an actual person brings it to you, why can’t you return it to an actual person????

i signed up for 2 years to avoid a $50 initiation fee that came with a 1 year contract and to get a $75 gift card from best buy. a 1 year contract is what i really wanted though. i only have about 11 months left of my 2 year contract.
once clearwire changed my speed (and monthly fee) to a higher level which i never authorized but they switched it back.
the speed was very slow a couple of times so i called them and one customer service person asked me what i do online and then she told me my speed was slow because i watched too many youtube videos and listened to live365 net radio for too long. it wasn’t long after talking to her that my speed was slow again.
another guy who was actually helpful told me to delete temporary internet files and do a few other things and it worked ok for the most part since then but the speed is at 1.0 mbps not 1.5 mbps.
i will be glad when my contract is over and won’t renew. it’s creepy how they take your social security number. i switched the credit card i was using to pay clearwire to a credit card i planned on canceling and i plan to cancel that card once they get their last payment when the last month of my contract arises because i expect them to falsely say i renewed my contract when my contract is over.
i am not going to let them charge me a termination fee when the 2 year contract is over.
in short, if you get clearwire( which you shouldn’t) use a credit card you are willing to cancel once clearwire gets their last payment on the contract and sign up for a year at the most and KEEP YOUR RECEIPT after you sign up because that will be the only paper proof you have of when you signed up other than your credit card statement.
clearwire has many creepy tactics like a car repair facility with a bad reputation and that is enough for me to not stay with them.
their contracts are too long. they should have 6 month and 1 year contracts and if they are so worried about customers keeping their modems they should require a deposit that is refunded when the modem is returned instead of charging peoples’ credit cards huge fees if the modem isn’t returned on time.

The frustration I have felt for 3 months is driving me over the edge. I recently moved into a housemate situation. She used another server, so I didn’t need Clearwire internet service transferred here. However, I wanted my own phone so told Clearwire this. They told me there was no problem, I could keep the phone and would not need the internet. I was willing to pay the full amount just to use the phone. I plugged the phone in and have been able to use in for a minute…no coverage, no tower nothing in my area. I have tried several times in calls and in person to cancel this service. They keep telling me to try this and try that. They said they could send a technician out to check service in the area. They never have. What I did, which is wrong, was close my checking account so they could not take money out of my accoun. I will be sending them the modem, etc back as soon as I find out the address..I will be sending registered/certified so they have to sign for it. If you have any suggestions please let me know. I am going to file a complaint with BBB and will be contacting Attorney General. I hope I can be involved in upcoming lawsuit.
Thank You for caring about the victims on Clearwire.

I found this site by Googling “Clearwire Sucks”! I knew I couldn’t be the only one who hates Clearwire. I would like to sue them for breech of contract. I pay them to furnish me 1.5 mbps internet service. If I am lucky during the peak hours I might get .5 mbps. At night after everyone has gone to bed I might get 1.2 mbps.
When I signed my last contract with Clearwire I was getting acceptable service, but in the past 6 months it has gone to Hell! I have written them multiple letters, and they don’t even have the decency to return the correspondence. Has anyone sued them for failure to hold up their commitment in regards to mbps? I am seriously considering checking their bandwidth every day for a couple of months with Speedtest.net who keep a database of benchmark tests and filing a suit in small claims court for my lack of service. Whether I win or not, Clearwire will have to respond or pay me!
Any advice on this matter will be appreciated.
Most sincerely,
Paul C.

I am so glad I found this page. I am thrilled that people are taking action against Clearwire. Their business practices are so manipulative and underhanded.
I filed a complaint against them with the Better Business Bureau yesterday. Although I doubt anything will happen with it, I just didn’t want them to get away with these practices without any repercussions.
Here’s my experience with Clearwire:
I had a two year contract with Clearwire in Anchorage, AK. I was paying $49.95 a month. When my contract expired, they sent me an email offering a reduced rate of $29.95 per month guaranteed for life. It did not mention anything about renewing my contract. There was no signature or anything required.
Three months later, I decided to switch to a faster internet provider. When I went down to cancel my account, Clearwire informed me that I had 9 months left on my contract, and that the acceptance of the reduced rate added a year to my contract. I was upset, because I was never informed that the reduced rate offered roped me into another year. Again, I saw nothing in the email to indicate that it would. I spoke to a representative, and they told me to sell my contract on Craigslist.
I then contacted a customer service technician via instant messenger, and they told me first that the email neglected to mention the contract extension, but they then stated that the acceptance of any special offers always renews a contract. He/she then terminated the conversation.
As of now, Clearwire has said the only way to get out of the contract is by paying $190 for the termination of it or by selling it on Craigslist.
I did not want another year of their service, and I never would have agreed to the special offer reduced rate had I known it would have extended my contract.

They charge to a credit card and never tell you that there is a 24 month contract, you call, they no problem , they tell you the monthly fee, you agree. Service is sub par or no service for hours upon hours, tech support, unplug and plug back in after 5 minutes sometimes this works, but mostly it does not. For me i got american express to stop payment by telling them i had no signed contract and when they could not produce this american express reported it as fraudulent billing and took the charges off. Now clearwire calls me several times a day, i tell them that even if i had a contract that it is a 2 way street they provide service i pay for that service, since service sucked they did not perform there end of the contract, if there was a contract I have not heard from them for 2 days . Just wanted to get this posted, my brother is an attorney and told me that they must provide service, no service you have the right to cancel. Call your bank call your credit card company service sucks and u do not have to pay

Once I paid and canceled the contract I found out they reported me to the credit bureau for $300 in late payments…I’m trying to dispute this and have it removed from my credit but you know how that goes trying to get a hold of someone with authority. I agree clear wire sucks big time!!!!

Having a tower put on your property would not help with your signal…With the transmitters being so high up there would be an umbrella effect…Basically the signal would go over your modem.

I have to reset my modem every 15 – 30 min. to get it working decently. I had 5 bars when I first got it, but now I have only 4 bars. I have to turn the modem 90 degrees to get signal every so often. When I talked to a representive about my lack of signal, he just said that I have to move it around to get a good signal. When I mentioned that the modem was in the same place for the past year, he had no answer. Not to mention he said that turning the modem 90 degrees to get a signal is normal. When I questioned him about my bit rate fluctuating alot, he told me that I should get the better plan so my bit rate is higher. When I posed the question “how is a higher bit rate suspose to help if the internet connection is fluctuating so much?” He couldnt answer. This service sucks and I want out as soon as my contract is up.

In my personal experience clearwire has the worst internet service that any company can provide. IF IT RAINS FORGET being able to use the internet.
When I signed up they had a “special promotional” rate. Not only did we not receive the special rate, they over charged us. It was only several months later that I received anything resembeling a credit.
I used their chat line to make a simple change to my account and one of their reps who had NO CLUE about anything, kept me on the chat line for 2 HOURS before they disconnected the chat and ended up BILLING my account when she was suppose to be REMOVING a charge. I had to rush to the bank to make sure prescheduled drafts did not bounce. I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that they DO NOT HAVE supervisors available at NIGHT.
I had a one year contract that has turned in to TWO YEARS without explanation. I have the flyer that has written evidence of the ONE YEAR promotional rate that I signed up for and that does not matter to them. I am still being charged 35.00 a month.
Clear wire has mastered the art of LOCK AND BILL. LOCK YOU IN to a plan that you did not agree on and BILL YOU whatever they feel is appropriate.
In my opinion it would be in your best interest to stay CLEAR of CLEARWIRE!

Clearwire sucks the scrotum of an 85 year old man with testicular cancer. They actually could have a great service, but by not limiting the number of people they sell it to, it’s like having 10,000 people locked in a room with one toilet, shit’s going to back up. If you can’t get a strong signal, that one thing, but when you have a decent signal and it’s still slower than dial-up that’s another.
I live in a town of ~25,000, pretty small. There’s a college here of ~12,000. When the students are gone, clearwire actually works so-so. As soon as the college kids come back and a bunch of them buy this POS service, I basically don’t have internet anymore. I’ve offered other companies $5,000 to figure out how to get something to my house because I cannot stand the service (it’s not really service, more like a box with blinking lights). Tell everyone you know not to buy this crap, and to go to the nearest store and buy two Styrofoam cups and some string, it’ll work better.

Hello
My name is Brad Barnett and I had both phone and internet through clearwire, last month they skyrocketed my monthly service to $82.00 a month.
I called and spoke to clearwire and they told me the promotion price was over and that’s why my bill doubled.
I contacted Quest and got phone and a much faster internet for a total of $44.95 a month. I called Clearwire to cancel the services and they informed me that I would have a $50.00 early cancellation fee.
So I paid it and the last bill and I thought I was done with them, I get another bill in the mail that says I still owe them $42.98.
I just got off the phone with Clearwire and those idiots cancelled the phone but not the internet! Thr cutomer service agent told me it was for a month of internet I reiterated that
I had cancelled both services on 7/24/2009 she said they would credit my account for the $42.98 but that they were going to charge me a $135.00 for early cancellation fee!
I told her that I had cancelled both services and paid the $50.00 I was asked to pay she replied I’m sorry for your inconvenience but that’s the way it is! I said BS
Let me speak to a manager and she said there wasn’t one (how convenient) I told her I won’t pay it and it wasn’t my fault that they hire inept people that don’t know what they are talking about.
She said don’t pay it we’ll just turn it into collections I said here’s my phone # you have a manager call me and if you don’t I will be your worst nightmare! That’s $185.00 total in cancellation fees!
That’s more than what Sprint would charge to get out of a cell phone contract! I will not be bullied by these idiots! They always threaten to ruin your credit when you refuse to pay! (any suggestions?)
I appreciate any help you can give me,
Thanks

Hi,
Another victim by the Clearwire.
I wished to check the website before I ordered the Clearwire intenet last month.
Today, I canceled the Clearwire intenet service because of the slower internet than promised in the ad. For the first time, I heard the two-year contract and the early termiantion fee when I called to cancel the service. This company looks living on the termination fee than service subscription. I don’t know how to fight the fraud but waiting for them to chage $250 to my credit card soon.

I must be the unluckiest person in the world. My Clear seems to work fine in Atlanta. Three times the speed of bellsouth for my internet and I had DSL. In the car we use the hotspot and the kids all log on with there Ipod. I ordered the phone service and waiting for the 911 location to clear then I can tell you if the phone service is any good.

oppps. PS not sure how everyone got on a two year contract. I never signed anything and it was never stated to me there was. That will be an easy one to take to court if for some reason they tried to pull a fast one.

I’m with you all. I had no idea that I was signing up for a 2 year contract. If that had been explained “clear”ly, I would have thought twice. I guess Comcast really does have a monopoly on high speed internet. I wanted to avoid paying the monopoly and ended up getting screwed by the next assholes in line. I should have known. I agree with what others have posted: that clearwire will not last. They are practicing a horrible business, obviously because they are only trying to make a quick buck. The best thing we can do is tell our friends and neighbors not to get this internet service because it is a falsely advertised gimmick.

I would like to also join in. It was great for about 6 months. Then I signed a two year contract to upgrade to high upload dl speed for 51 something per month. After that it went downhill. I can’t watch videos on youtube or netflix without waiting ten minutes. I can’t play my video games on my ps3 anymore without getting yelled at or booted by other people saying I’m lagging the game. And I notice it too! I only get one bar and rarley 3. Never any higher and they say the Tower is about 5 minutes from me. And they lie to me saying your connection is great and I’m looking at one bar on my receiver.. Great connections are where you can watch a youtube or netflix movie with little wait or play a video game without getting yelled at! This is stupid and I am angry with them. All they do is lie!!

I never knew anybody who had clear, but they advertised how fast they were and coverage everywhere. Before I had been using wifi from a business by my house (not to reliable). So I decided to give them a try, I signed onto a month to month at $65 a month. I got home when and installed the software, and no service no bars would light up.
The next day I called them saying I didn’t get service, they said I was basically lying because there was a tower right by my house. They claim it was my computer (I had just bought a couple months before), they had me do all these different things to my computer, still didn’t work. And then I wasn’t able to get any wifi to connect to my computer. I tryed to cancel but they said a tech had to come out to my house before I could and i would get the first month free.
The tech came to my door and said I won’t get any service here and left. So I called to cancel and they said I would get the first month free so to try it and then cancel after the first month. I took my labtop around the city and never got service. And then to my surprise I was charged for the first month! I called about the charge and they said I had to send the equipment back and they would refund the money. I did and waited for the money to be returned and a even greater surprise they charged me for a secound month!
I called again and they said they only got haft the equipment back (I had a modem and a usb) so they called thier inventory and yes indeed they had both, so within the next 24hours they would return the money. A week later I got haft of one month back. When I called they said since only haft of the equipment back they only returned haft the money, the called inventory and holey moley both were returned, it would be 48hours and they would return the rest of the money. A week later I called and they still hadn’t returned the money they said the most would only be haft the month, and it would be another week. I contacted my bank about desputing the charges and they told me clear had another payment scheduled!
3 months after I had signed up, I never was able to use the service (which also caused a problem because every time I would call they would harass me about not having a security question) they claim to give me a month free (never got) and won’t let me cancel (since they haven’t accounted for the equipment I sent back) and still charging me for the service! What a headache!
O and now the reason I can’t get wifi because dns is bad! What!? It was fine before. I tryed to call them about it but they said it wasn’t there problem. I have to go through and reset my dns and reboot my computer every 2 weeks!
Obviously they have been having problems, why do they act like everybody is the only one?

So I’ve had clearwire for about 3 months now. My beef with them is their fees. I had closed the account that I made the first payment with and paid my second month with the checkcard from my new account and updated my information. This month, they cut off my service for nonpayment, I didn’t receive any notice whatsoever of the turn off. So I called them and they said I had to pay a $50 late fee for my $55 service. They said I owe $25 per account. Apparently, having a modem for my pc and laptop is considered two separate accounts. I went through the roof and told them that I am not paying it… I did what I was supposed to do and had proof that I had changed the account. After all, that’s how I paid for the previous month. The representative said he could reverse one fee but not the other. I demanded to speak to a supervisor. He transferred me to another person who said the same thing. At this point, I’m really agitated. I take college courses online and I had an assignment I had to upload and submit that night. I demanded to speak to a supervisor or I will cancel my service immediately. The rep said “well, you’d be charged a cancellation fee”. I told her that I didn’t care what they charged me, I won’t be paying them anything! She transferred me and I got the $50 late fee reversed. I made the payment and made sure she updated my account information.
I’m in Atlanta, so far the service is okay, nothing like they claimed though. I tried to get a connection on I-85 at Spaghetti Junction, literally under their billboard that says “This isn’t I-85, it’s a place to get high speed internet”, but that’s a lie, I was sitting in the passenger seat, heading downtown, and the signal didn’t pick up until I was at a standstill in the parking lot. It certainly doesn’t compare to FiOS. I wish Verizon was here, it’s so worth the money!!
Also, don’t believe the hype about the $25 AmEx card for referrals! I’ve referred four people, and I haven’t gotten one red cent. I’ve called customer service and they claimed that the customers didn’t mention my code. I’ve even had them call once their service was connected and they were told it’s too late to apply the referral to the account. I’m out $100 due to the lies… argh!

Clearwire is become slower and slower.
I have the service about half years, and now its heard to see even You tube!!!
I am a programmer and I can’t work at home, because I can’t connect to server almost all of the time!
I’m loosing money because of slowest connection.
It’s Hell Slow.
I called to the customer service, but they say thats my PC’s problem. However I have 3PC, having problem to connect to server… Is that my PC’s Problem??
I don’t think so.
I can’t believe this provider cost about $30!!! and let us have 2years contract!!!

My son got clearwire in March 2009 (he never signed anything). He used my credit card to guarantee the charge. In May 2009, I was told that I was relocating to Virginia for my job (either go or no job). When I checked to see if Clearwire service was available in my area, turns out it is not. At that time my son returned the modem to the clearwire office in Jacksonville and the guy said the service will cancel and no more charges would occur. Well here we are four months later and not only have they charged my account, but when I called them they started a work ticket to locate the modem and closed the ticket the same day because they couldn’t find the modem in Las Vegas. Then I was told that we should have called clearwire and they would authorize a UPS return. Well too little too late. Now after a long discussion with a clearwire representative, and after I told them I was going to close my account, they debited my account for $154.67. So, now I am out almost $300 for something I cannot use and obviously someone is either using that modem or it was thrown out. I have spoken with Clearwire every month since May but of course there is no record of communication and I was going to write a letter but I cannot find their address anywhere. I would be happy to join this lawsuit.

I had been a long-term customer, until the lies and upgrades started. Since July of this year our service had been fine, sometimes great. Then the upgrades started. Our service went down to poor to down right slow. I talked to the lastest clearwire tech, clearwire is a Level 3 customer and I am the Area Tech. He explained of the upgrades and new equipment on the tower that should make our service better, I passed this information to my wife. She works for AT&T. We understand the technical side of the business. Sometimes we are forced to work at home, this was becoming a problem with the failing service. She called to see if there was some way to improve our service and was told that new receiver equipment was being sent and after the upgrades were completed on the 1st of September our service would be faster than it had ever been. We couldn’t wait and being long term customers we didn’t think that it was all lies and we were being lied to. The new equipment arrived and as advertised it was fast, the problem was a loss of signal. One bar, sometimes two bars, but not for long. Usually one bar to search mode. We called and were told to hold on till the upgrades were finished. I knew the upgrades were done at least a my junction site. I talked to the lastest tech again. He explained the probems of making the upgraded equipment work with the existing equipment and connecting each area to work at all. Then clearwire had an OC-12 problem with Brooks fiber in Dallas, Midland was down for a day and a half. I spent hours on the phone with your NOC with my TNOC. I cannot repeat what I heard, we have a Code of Conduct. I was not pleased. Our service was non-existing. Up and down to the point of not worth the time to start the computer. My wife called and asked for a service call and made an appointment for the following week. This was the earliest time available. A week with no service, we were beginning to lose faith in clearwire. The next day my wife got a call from your service center on her voice-mail and yes we have the recording. One of your reps from the call center was calling to Cancel the service call and explained, in a nasty tone, that she had had tech’s in our area before and clearwire could no longer provide service, we were DENIED SERVICE! We pulled down your equipment and placed all back into the original boxes. Called the service center to be sure our account was closed and explain both sets of your equipment are in the same box and wanted to give the tracking number. After being transferred to your account closed line and being on hold for 10 minutes, your churn rate must be very high. The not so nice fellow explained that our account as still open and until the equipment was returned would not be closed and that No we could not send both sets in the same box. He would mail another pre-paid UPS label. My wife explained that this would not drag out for another month so clearwire could steal another 35 dollars. You DENIED US SERVICE. This is theft and very unprofessional and not the way to treat anyone. My wife was beginning to raise her voice. The not so nice man asked for an e-mail address, was given mine, and explained that a pre-paid UPS label would be in my box first thing this morning. Another Lie! Was I got was an e-mail staying the label should arrive in 48 hours. I called My VISA, your charges are in Dispute. Last month and this month. I have added the FCC and will follow with a formal complaint and will be seeing the local BBB. I understand that I will not get a response from this e-mail, but as I find the address for each of your Board of Directors and anyone in upper management will get a copy.

Oh if only I had found this site before I signed up!!
We signed up in August 2008 and the service sucked from the beginning, with slow speed and forget watching YouTube or anything streaming! We didn’t complain though because we just felt like oh well what more can we do? Then in May 2009, we were forced to move because our landlord went broke and gave our house back to the bank – completely out of our control, the bank needed to sell the house and we weren’t in the position to buy it. So, we moved about 5 minutes up the road. Got moved to the new place, plugged everything in and no signal! Called tech support, they suggested I try to put the modem OUT THE WINDOW of the second story (How frickin’ practical!?) but I did try it, just to see if I could get a signal and nope! So, I wanted out of my contract and was told I would have to pay almost $200 early termination fee. Yikes! So, I tried to get someone to take over my service on Craigslist for 2 months with no takers. So then I called Clearwire back hoping to appeal to their sense of decency and goodwill. They just kept giving me the same $hitty option – pay the ETF!
This has drug out all summer long with me not wanting to or really having the means to pay their high ETF.
Finally on Aug. 27, I called and spoke to about 3 or 4 different reps and had one lower the ETF to only $71, which is better than $171 but they also changed the TOS on 8/20/09 – DID NOT notify me of the changes – and when I pressed them to provide me with a copy of the TOS I agreed to when I signed up, so I could read for myself what the ETF policy is, they couldn’t do it! They said they don’t keep a copy of it! Seeing that there was so recent a change that allows customers 20 days to notify Clearwire that you don’t agree with the new terms, I sent them a certified letter that said I wanted out of my agreement because I did not agree to the new terms. I sent it certified with a return receipt requested. I got my green card back about a week and half ago but no one has acknowledged my letter. So I called Clearwire this morning.
The rep gave me all the same old song and dance and told me that unless I had been “harmed” in some way by the new terms that I was still not allowed to cancel the agreement without penalty. So in other words, I would have to wait until they screw me worse than they already have. I haven’t had their $hitty service since May – I’m already down by over $120 and they still want $71 for the ETF…guess I should’ve just paid it back in May.
Fine, they can have $71 more from me, but in return I will tell everyone I know – including the Attorney General of my state, the FTC, and the BBB – what a terrible experience having Clearwire has been for me. And I hope when the class action is won (hard to imagine it won’t be) we can all have the last laugh.
Oh and the rep this morning said there was nothing on my account about the letter I sent them, but I have my proof of sending it and proof that someone from Clearwire Corp. HQ signed to receive it – in most other areas, this would be something I can take them to small claims for. Will look into that – they are trying to enforce a “contract” on me that they can’t even provide me a copy with, did not inform me of the changes to TOS, and are not allowing me to terminate the agreeement as it states I am allowed to do in the TOS. I’ve followed the “rules” and Clearwire has not, if I have a case I will be sure to pursue it!

Hello,
my name is Jamie D. and I wish I would have fount this page before my service started in August of this year (2009). From August 24 until now Sept.23 I have had problems with clearwire. From the 1st day I got clearwire I had no signal. I took my labtop to work to get a signal, @ the park while my kids had football practice until I got home and still no signal. Day 2 I call clearwire I speak with a rep he tells me to plug in my antenna and go outside east to see if I can get a signal. Mind you I need my internet for school which started August 24. I then get one ring for a singal he tells me since you can’t stand outside can you go to McDonald’s or Starbucks. I’m a single mother with 3 kids how in the hell can I leave @ 9pm @ night to use my labtop to do homework? I should have known that Clearwire was going to be trouble. Now, I finally get one ring for a signal. In order for me to get this one ring I have to plug in my antenna and set it in the window and set my labtop in a chair to keep this signal in my living room no where else or I want get a signal. My last straw with Clearwire was Sunday Sept. 20 when it quit working I can no longer get a signal and all they can do is send me another card! I just want out of my contract keep the $115.00 you already gotten from me. I missed a quiz and an assignment which was due by 11:59pm on Sunday Sept. 20.

I had clearwire for two years. Then in the middle of my term I bought a new house, called to transfer my service, set the computer and modem up to find out we dont have service at my new home. Called to see what was going on…They told me that I would have to pay $180 to cancel the service. Keep in mind I dont get service where I live (their fault) and they want me to pay them??? I was horrified. They did the whole ‘a supervisor will call back in 24-48 hours’ bit. No one called for two weeks. Finally some chick called to let me know she would only charge me $95 and that they would NOT be drafting that from my account. A week later I had a $95 charge on my credit card. I called and two hours later and a threat about calling the BBB…The charge was reversed and a bill for $95 is being sent to my house.
I would advise anyone looking for service not to go to Clearwire. They will take your money any way they can.

By George,
I have been taken by the Clearwire’s scam, the service is not what they promise. Iv’e tried to get a normal signal at several places in my house. I was told there were towers set of of powerline pluglinks. Itlocated on both sides of me. They sent me a seemed to work for a couple of months. The plugs send the signal through the wall but it started shutting off the circut breaker. At first the lights in the bedroom started flickering on and off, then the outlets in the bathrooms stop working.
My biggest complaint is that is every day when I shut down windows, before I can get online, the computor has to go through and diagnose the problem. Each time it takes to fix the problem, Its like waiting for dail-up only sometimes painfully longer. I talked to Kyle a clearwire tech, he was helpful. He tried to fix the problem. He showed some free adaware sites. They get rid of “errors” that cause problems on the computor startup.
I started with a two year service agreement $14.99 per month for 3 months. After that I agreed to pay $39.99 a month that was supposed to be their quality service, the 1.5MB. They had a cheaper service but I didn’t want sacrifice the quality, besides I could just bearly get online with the 1.5MB.
One year later I negotiated terms that I thought at the time was to be acceptable. They added me to another two year agreement. I’m only paying $24.99 but they have me stuck until October 2011. I have the same problems and the service still hasn’t gotten any better. The contract is more than I can afford to pay off.
Hopefuly something can be done. I think clearwire customers have a valid complaint and would be able to get hundreds and possible thousands of name of others who haven’t been satsfied with the services. Excuding the tech service they seem to be the only ones that in my experience who actually care about being fair to the customer.

I signed with them in 2004. During my first few weeks, I had the same problem like everyone with weak or no signal at all. I call the local rep office and made them to come into my house to witness the problem. After the tech walked around the house and tried to capture the signal but couldn’t, he then took all the equipments back. I was never been charged. The contract was voided only if the “tech” verify. Just want to give you guys out there some ten cents.

I moved & Clearwire doesn’t work out here. They want to charge me $135 to cancel a service I’m not receiving. I made an appt. with a tech to come to my house. They never showed up, the notes on file say “known blind spot” so they cancelled the call and didn’t bother to cal me. I’ve been promised a call from a supervisor but that still hasn’t happened. I cancelled the credit card they are billing but is only a temporary fix. I hate clearwire & refuse to pay them for something they aren’t providing me with. They have crumby internet & customer service.

After 1 year of miserable service from clearwire and countless hours on the phone to their “technical” support, I have finally cancelled their service. I’m more than will to pay a $160 fee to cancel just to relieve the constant headache of having to deal with those knuckle heads. At least I thought I had canceled my service. Called them and told them to cancel it, sent back my modem and guess what? I just got a bill for next months service. This company is inept in the least and in my opinion fraudulent. Guess I’m going to have to start disputing charges from them on my credit card.

I signed up for Clear a few months ago at the Intel campus where I work. I had no idea that a company allowed to peddle inside Intel, would be such a SCAM. I do not complain about the connection quality (for the most part), but I have to say that their business practices are AWFUL! The deal that they advertised (“for Intel employees only”), was never delivered (except the first month), and they are charging almost 2x what I’m supposed to pay. I’ve tried resolving the problem by calling them about 6 times, always with a promise to solve it. Last time I called and said I was fed up with this and was going to close the account. The guy said that he could fix everything right away (REALLY??? after many failed attempts?). He told me that he would refund all of the overcharges immediately and start billing me the rate that I was supposed to pay starting the following month. Guess what? I NEITHER got the money (they only refunded partially), NOR the bill was reduced.
After reading the comments on this site, I think I’m going to cancel it right away! I will do my best to discredit Clear here at Intel. They do not deserve to be here. And shame on every other company partnering with them (e.g. Best Buy), they should use Google before teaming up with crooks.
By Dima on Nov 2, 2009 | Reply
By the way, I wanted to mention that whenever I call them, they have no idea about the deal that was advertised. Nor do they have any idea about any Intel specials. So, every time I call them to resolve it I have to *PROVE* that advertisement by faxing them the flyer. Thanks goodness I kept it. And I’m not giving it away.

SO I am glad I found this website. Clearwire is crap!
I lived in a rural area and had full bars, then moved to the city and had full bars. Then moved to another area in the city and cant get anything. It is always hit or miss and I can barely get one bar.
I called in to cancel and they said “you cant cancel because of the contract”. I dont remember signing a contract and she said “its on the website”. How can you hold a party to a contract that was never signed?
I went into the Clearwire store and asked them to see a map of the coverage area. The Representative pulled up the map and said “yes you are outside the coverage area” and told me to call customer service to cancel service. I did and they said I couldnt cancel without paying $180 for the cancellation fee. I went through the paperwork that was given to me when I first signed up and there was nothing indicating a contract.
So for the last 5 months, I’ve been paying for internet service that I cannot use. My plan is to cancel my debit card and send them their equipment back.
I was going to just let my contract expire, but I see they just renew and continue to bill. It sucks that I will now have to go without access to my bank funds for a week, but I am not paying for service I do not get.

I am also having the same experience. I moved from an apartment that received service to one that was outside of the service area. They were going to send a rep out to the complex, but then called back saying there was nothing they could do for me. I could either sell my account to someone else or pay the early termination fee. When I contacted my bank to stop automatic payments, I was told I had to do this through Clearwire, who would not allow me to. I closed that account and opened a completely new one in order to stop payments for a service I was not able to receive.
Will they turn me into a collections agency? How will this effect my credit? Anyone have any advice on this?

At this point it’s cheaper to wait it out. Clearwire sucks ass.

I have been generally satisfied with Clearwire over the past year until just recently: this whole thing with aggressively redirecting my web browswer without my consent is absolutely outrageous. I have spent the past 2 weeks dealing with malware issues on my computer, and truthfully, this issue with Clearwire looked a lot like some of the malware I’ve been dealing with. I think I’ll send them a bill for my time in problem-solving their hijacking of my web browser and will cancel my service immediately, regardless of early termination fees. I feel betrayed and outraged by Clearwire! I mean come on–this is *my* computer and I have paid good money for an internet connection that will *serve* *me*–not that will serve *their* advertising objectives. Outrageous if not criminal!!

This is a very nice gesture that you would provide us with this phone number. The problem is this gentleman’s heart is as hard as a rock. If the whole U.S. called him and complained he would not hear us. What we all need to do is click our red slippers together and hope it’s just a bad dream. But, lets call Craig in the meantime!

Please read James’ comments and if you think this number is legit, please call and leave a message.. James just posted this like 2 days ago! I am an ex-employee and it’s not any better on that side of the fence either this is the worst most un-organized company I have ever seen. When I was working there there was a nationwide outage and I was in sales which is where everyone gets to anyways because customer service is only open limited hours but sales is always there. Anyways you can imagine the phones were slammed I suggested that they put a message when people called in to say we have an outage and were working on it just to be up front and let people know and of course they didn’t and I couldn’t help anyone because I was in sales.
Now lets talk about upper management I have never seen a company that will push everything to the side but here it is and if you want to contact one of head flunkees his name is Craig Lombardi he’s out of Las Vegas office and his cell number is 248-444-5097 his bosses name is Jessica a walking breathing living Tyrant of a woman, to this day I still don’t know what she does. This company did everything wrong and I am so glad to be out of there, I have ethics and morals and they Don’t care about you as the consumer they just want your money. Once they have it you’ll never get out of your contract thats how they screw everyone. I dealt with probably 15-20 angry people a day that wanted out but got screwed.
Please help me shut this fraudulent company down call Craig Lombardi in Las Vegas at 248-444-5097 and Jessica and let them have it.

When I asked him what I get for referrals he said they may have a bonus offer out soon for their 4G markets but for now my friends cna get the same great service. Call the guy cause hes a riote!

Sooo, does anyone have any further information, I started service with their pick 2 unlimited home and mobile service on January 10th of this year, after I got home and set it up I immediately speed tested and got really poor results, so I called tech support, they said that there was a reported issue with my tower that was being looked into and to call back if I still experienced issues in a week… well I thought I had 30 days to cancel, so I was like, cool that works… turns out it’s 7 days not 30, even though I was told 30 at the clear store that I got the service from… apparently they can lie to you at the stores and it is your responsibility to go online without internet access and read their terms of service… so I found out the 7 day thing when I called them a bit more than a week later on the 20th, with the same issues, speed had never improved at all… well they told me that I couldn’t cancel because it was past 7 days, so I’d have to pay $200ish per service to cancel, I was mad, but they said they could fix it, so I went through all this troubleshooting, and they escalated me to tech support level 2, and did more troubleshooting, and finally this guy has me run a test and send it to him, and he says he knows what the problem is, but it requires a tier 3 technician to actually look at the server and tower, but that I won’t have to worry about calling in, they will call me within 48-72 hours with details on what is wrong and an estimated time to fix it. I never got called back and have called them serveral times, still no improvement, and the kicker is, I now moved 4 days ago to a different part of town some 15 miles away from where I previously lived, and have called in and been told that my speed issues are being worked on and that it is just the tower in my area, so they are lying to me, and they know it… again, is there any update on the lawsuit, because I can’t afford $400 etf, and even if the service was fixed tomorrow, the fact that I moved and it’s still broken implies it ain’t broke, it is just that bad, but their tech support is trained to lie about it pretty darn well…

Clearwire was a dream, could access from anywhere in my house. There were 2-3 laptops at the same time NO PROBLEM.
I was forced to upgrade to CLEAR in November. Since upgrading to CLEAR my internet wouldn’t load or google or gmail specific wouldn’t load. I called support and was literally on the phone from FRiday thru Sunday with no resolution. CLEAR support blamed my MAC. I took my MAC in and they kept it over night to completely check it out, no it wasn’t an AppLe problem. Then CLEAR said it was BELKIN, never mind it worked fine until I changed over to CLEAR, they advised I replace it. I did. Stilll no internet at all for days. Loading loading loading. I hired an independent computer person, who couldn’t figure out the problem. I hate CLEAR and want out of my contract ends August. PLEASE PUT MY NAME ON THE CLASS ACTION SUIT. CLEAR SUCKS!!!!

Clearwire,
SUCKS! I have tried these fools three times since moving to Portland,Oregon and each their system didn’t work for me, first time I was told I would I have super fast and got home and found out they lied. Had to fight Clear for months to erase a bill that shouldn’t have been there. Well again I gave clearwire another and yet again they failed. They claim to be have faster than cable internet and right now I think that is a bunch of crap! They will also tell you so companies have given money for this company, which I am starting to think that is crap as well. These reps will do anything to sell clear to you, even ask for a love ones birth date, what they don’t tell you is this is a credit check on this person. The other thing clearwire doesn’t do is vefiy anything and the rep given a name and birth date uses this as co-signer. After that these people will tell you oh you can change the account in your in three days, that is not true nor can you cancle the account. These people lie and don’t follow the rules in order to sell thier crap service. I have fallen into their trap too many times. I am poting this because I want people fully aware that Clearwire reps stops at nothing to make a sell. Thier company stinks and should be sued to the max! Please if asked for a loves one name and birth date don’t give it, this is if you can’t pass thier credit check.

I’m finally almost finished with my contract after dealing with their horrible connection as well as shitty customer service. They keep calling asking me to renew my contract every time they do I answer and tell them to fuck off. I wouldn’t keep their service if it was free. My wife and I signed a two year contract and one year into it, I got a transfer for work and we had to move to an area with no clearwire. We couldn’t find anyone to change the responsibility so we continued to pay the monthly fee instead of the stupid $500 cancellation fee. The real problem started when our contract was up and we needed to return the equipment. We called hundreds of times to get them to send us the mailing label, but they kept sending it to the wrong address and we even drove to a clearwire store to try to return the equipment but they wouldn’t accept it. When we finally got a mailing label and sent it in, they told us they will not give us back our money that they took from our account every month during this struggle to return the equipment, a time which we were under no contract and received no service. I HATE Clearwire and I am going to sue!

I ordered clearwire service because they had a price that I could afford and then I lost my job and had to move, well the place I moved to apperently did not have a tower so i called clearwire and they told me there was nothing they could do so I canceled my service and I thought that was the end of it,boy was I wrong, about 3 months later I went to the grocery store and at the check out stand my debit card was denied so I went to my bank and they told me I had no money at all in my account and that the responsible party was clearwire so I called clearwire and they told me the reason they continued to take money was because I had not returned the modum and I reminded them that I had cancelled the service and they said it didn’t matter as long as I had the modum they would continue to charge me so I told them I would return the modum and wanted a full refund and they told me I needed a special label in order to return it(the modum) so I asked them to send it to me and they said they could not send it via mail and they could only send it email,I told them I didn’t have internet(duh) and had no access to a computer and they told me there was nothing they could do,well about a week later I went to the library and used their computer and checked my email and guess what no label so I called clearwire and they told me they would send it again and it would be in my inbox within 24 hours I replied that I could not stay at the library for 24 hrs to wait for the email and they said they had no control over the time and that they would email it to me anyways and that I had 10 days to send the modum back or they would not refund the month of my money and ofcourse I told them I want 100% of my money refunded to me(about $190.00) and they said 1 month or nothing==um last I checked it is my money and they are making deals with my own money WOW.
I finaly got a job after 6 months and paid my bank the fees etc and opened up a different account. Needless to say I still have the modum and I have a message for clearwire!===
CLEARWIRE IF YOU READ THIS THE LISTEN UP I HAVE AN OFFER FOR YOU===YOU RETURN 100% OF MY MONEY INCLUDING THE OVERDRAFT FEES TO ME AND I WILL RETURN YOUR MODUM AND THAT IS THE FINAL OFFER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will never do business with clearwire again and I will tell anyone and everyone of what kind of business you are and remember one mouth will tell hundreds!!!!!!!!!!

So i recently worked for clearwire as a Tech support rep. and let me tell you that you are all right. We had to go through two weeks of training that more or less consisted of the million things that can and will go wrong with the service that was supposed to be so great. On top of that we had to go throuh another two weeks on the floor where we had 4 supervisore right there telling us what to say. So if it seems like the rep on the phone doesnt know what he was talking about your right. I mean during the interview i was informed that no tech experience was neccessary so what does that tell ya. Any way we also had a program called Clearsky that alowwed us to see all the towers everywhere that we provided “service” in. It also allowed us to see the constant daily outages and issues with the towers. It was ridiculous that at least half of the areas would be out of service or have degraded service every day. It got to a point where i just wanted to tell people calling in to just cancel. Because it was either that or a ridiculous amount of troubleshooting. It was actually part of our troubleshooting list to have the customer take their modem outside or stick it out a window to see if they could find a signal. Although you obviously would not leave your modem outside so even if you did it made no difference. So all in all it came down to trying to calm the customer down no matter what it took, always saying there was no supervisor available, although there usually was, giving them a credit or two on the acct. if you couldnt fix the problem, basically keeping them from trying to cancel. Although most would just be more upset with the outrageous cancellation fees. All i can say is im glad i dont work for them anymore and shit im scrubbing toilets now.

Okay, I’m not even gonna’ START with all the problems I’ve had with my connection. Sounds like that’s already been covered. But what finally drove me to seek out s site called clearwiresucks.com is the experience I just had trying to pay my bill. I’m a college student with a part time job, so I don’t exactly have a lot of disposable income. So anyway, a couple of weeks ago I go online to pay my bill. I do, and everythings fine. Until I go to use my credit card at my local grocery store a few hours later. My card comes up declined. So I go home and check out my transaction history to find out what the problem is and discover that Clearwire took an extra 111.00 off my card in addition to my bill. So I called the customer service rep. He explained that this was a “hold”. And that once the card had cleared, the money would be returned to my account. Which would typically be in three to five days. And before you ask, no, I had never had any problems with insufficent funds, or anything else, that would suddenly cause them to put a hold on my account. As far as I could get out of them, it’s just something that they “do sometimes”. I explained that, because they decided to take money out of my account without permission or even a warning, I had accrued several overdraft fees from my bank, at 35.00 a pop. Basically they’re response was, “Too fucking bad. You’ll get your money back in three to five days.”
What the hell is this? It’s like if I went into the grocery store and, while paying for my groceries, the clerk snatches the wallet out of my hand and says “Sorry, but I’m just gonna hold onto this for three to five days. You can come back for it then…”
WTF????

The best advice thus far is to write your state Attorney General with a peronal complaint. My apartment has a cell phone tower
within sight and if it snows I have crippled service. On “good” days my service provider is not even close to their terms and conditions of the contract. I boxed the crap back up after a year and told them to take a hike. I have come to the absolute conclusion that any company that wants a contract up front is a sham, especially this worthless piece of crap.

DO NOT SIGN UP FOR CLEAR!!!
I am a business owner is las vegas and was scammed into signing up with clear. July 30th a clear rep came out to my business to pitch their service. My first question to her was how is the reception? She told me that in her car her laptop is getting 2 bars but the battery dies and she cannot get it back up. I asked her to bring the USB modem inside and I could plug it into my laptop. Oh she replied the drivers will only work with windows xp. I told her I have an old laptop with XP running on it. Then she tells me that the drivers are on her laptop and she left the charger at the office. At this moment I should have thrown the B**CH out. Instead 9 months later and countless hours spent with tech support, I could have my normal life back. Well it turned out we received our 2 modems and a USB modem the next week. August 3rd, 2009 I plugged in the modem and would not get any signal at all. I tried the second modem and the same thing. I called tech support only to find out that the nearest tower was more than 1.2 miles away. I told the tech support rep that the sales rep that came out last week said she was getting 2 bars in her car, how is that possible? The tech replied, she must have been mistakes. It tool another 2 weeks before a tower near me came online. Thank got I thought to myself. August 19th, 2009 Now I have 5 bars on the modem. I went to speedtest.net to see what the performance, to my huge disappointment the ping times were over 400ms and 1.5 was my download speed and 300k was my upload speed. I could not operate my credit card terminal because of the high ping times. I kept contacting tech support. They had me move the modem to 10 different place and we had the same trouble. I am convinced that Clear wire is a scam. There service is worthless. I am ready for a Class Action suit to get all my money back for the worthless equipment I am stuck with and 9 months worth of service. -AJ

I was at first please with Clearwire, but their required change and change of modem, changed both my experience and my disgust at both Clearwire and Regulators that it takes not the company nor the government, but a class action lawsuit to get change…which has yet to happen, probably because Clearwire has such deep pockets like those of Google and Microsoft (although Microsoft is not involved in this snafu.)
My experience with Clearwire was to contact the technical Escalation manager in Seattle/Kirkland who sent a contractor out to test my place and antenna. After two plus hours he and the person on the phone determined it was their signal that was the culprit. It didn’t get any better after that.
The change from wi-fi to WiMax was supposed to make a good system better, but has actually provided even worse service. I would think clearwire would go back to their old system that was at least stable and always on and connected. But no, they won’t, they won’t give customers a break on their bill either for poor service…even Comcast does that if the service is out for a day or so. Clearwire has done nothing in my estimation to try and smooth the situation with customers. They appear to be too big to worry about the single customeer.
I’ve logged all the times the connection has broken here over the past few months since the person was here trying to figure out why they were failing to give me good service. The many calls to tech people have gone down hill. They don’t even try to help. One told me, “Well, you have to expect glitches with something so new.” Not on my dime I don’t.
I put the iTraffice monitor which tracks the speeds of my Internet traffic. Much of the time I’m getting poorer service than I could get with a 33 baud modem back years ago.
While I can’t cancel the service with out a large early $$ punishment, I’m moving to Verizon anyway, at a much higher cost and expect someone will pay me eventually. I have a business and I can bill the company for my duress and inconvenience. If they don’t pay my consulting bill, I deduct it from my taxes. Hopefully it will be money they have to pay the government in taxes.
As a stock holder (shortly to be former stockholder of Clear and Clearwire) I’m appalled at the contractual agreements between Sprint, Clearwire, Google and others, that have basically tied the Internet to them, at the point they control much of the Internet.
I’m hoping the utilities will eventually allow electrical lines to be used for fast Internet connections and the big bad companies can go take their own crap.
So just know Clearwire really, really, sucks and someone should do some regulation to tell them to take a leap and pay back the customers for what they paid in. If I still had my 56 baud modem and a card slot, I’d be using that now.

What a frustration! I have had the problem of the internet just always going down. My kids would unplug everything and then plug back in to try to get it to work. I have been having issues about speed and being disconnected for a while, they replaced the modem once and we spent a long time on the phone, having me uninstall Mcafee and many other things. It was finally established that the problem was at the tower, 1/4 mile from me. They promised to fix the problem, and I give the techs credit, they called back and said it would be until at least Nov 2010 before the problem was fixed, if then. In the interim, I was offered 1/2 price service until the tower was fixed, to begin on the next billing. Next bill is full price removed from my bank account. I called to ask what happened and was told “We don’t offer anything like that and someone told you wrong, you can cancel if you want to”. Tired of poor quality and being misled for months now. No more Clear for me!!

Clearwire is the worst internet that I’ve ever seen, and will be tossed once I move, but I barely ever get 2-3 bars, and when I do, it operates as if it was only one bar. As soon as I move, I’m getting AT&T or Comcast. I heard they’re both faster and more reliable, PLUS… Wireless ISP’s are unreliable, slow, and generally useless in most areas, I recommend NOT getting Clearwire, get Fios or something.

The service just keeps getting worse. Two weeks ago I told them I was ending the service. Just tested the download speed and it registered .08 M per sec, a new low or about 4% of what I pay for. This is the worse company I have ever dealt with in my whole life. The good news is, I will be ending their horrible service in two weeks. In the last 8 months, I have probably spent at least 8 hours on the phone trying to get tech help, nothing improved and it only got worse.

I’ve been using clearwire for the past 3 months or so and it is HORRIBLE! My mom always gave the same excuse in the first month of having to “pay for the stuff up front” when the connection goes down DAILY usually for about 30 minutes – 4 hours. This is UNACCEPTABLE I should not have to steal someones wireless connection to WATCH youtube videos at LOWEST QUALITY. If theres any way to get around the cancellation fee I would LOVE to know it so I can finally convince my mom clear is crap! We get their advertised speeds but sometimes I can’t connect for a day STRAIGHT. Clearwires “ping” is over 150 and sometimes I’ll see my speed dip down to 1mbps download. They kept telling us “oh the tower there is fine and you should be able to connect by repositioning the modem or resetting it” BULLSHIT! Everything that comes out of the hole they use to eat eachothers crap is a LIE. I didn’t have this much of a problem when we moved and Verizon told us “You’re paying for a 3mbps connection but getting a 1mbps connection because 3mbps isn’t offered where you are yet” I mean what the hell? NOBODY should have to put up with clearwires shit. Oh and, my internet crashed while I was typing this, now I’m stealing the comcast connection near me that NEVER GOES DOWN YOU CLEARWIRE SONS OF FUCKING BITCHES. I’m sorry about the language but seriously, clearwire needs to be taught a fucking lesson about business and get shown who the fucking boss is with a LARGE ass fucking lawsuit that puts them out of business for GOOD

Hello I got clearwire may 13th 2009 and the very first day it sucked and I HATE CLEARWIRE and got stuck with this lopsided contract which only benefited them(CLEARWIRE) they do not care about the customers, CLEARWIRE is purely and clearly a RIPOFF COMPANY, I believe I should get all of my money back or not be charged more than dialup because the fastest speed i ever got was a whooping 90kbs, I will be happy when I can leave CLEARWIRE more like run away from those LEECHES, I hate CLEARWIRE and wish nothing but the worse for them and their tech support is a joke more like dealing with brainless morons, by the way I have web email can someone at this site send me the email address so I can try to get on this class action suit against CLEARWIRE, clearwire is a fitting name for that prick of a company because the wire is clear of anything like the modem speeds

This is the worst service possible!!! Mdem goes down weekly speed is slower than dialup. .50.75 in speed grade F- i tried to save money by not going with rip comcast but this Fing service is the bigest ripoff of them all!!! Cancellation fees of $150 I am getting really close to canceling this shit.

Hi, I’ve had Clear w’re for about 5 months now. It was always slow but I did not care much for it as long as I was able to ready my emails and surf the net. Now that I ordered Netflix, I could not play the videos properly because Netflix player kept buffering. As it turned out, my internet speeds were at 0.30Mbs Download and 0.15Mbs Upload on average with a full signal on the modem (5lights on). This is like having a 256K connection when you are paying for a 6.0MB connection. After numerous tries to fix the problem and spending at least 4 hours by phone and chat, they finally issued a ticket number to investigate. I will ask for a credit due to not being able to watch my videos on Netflix which im paying for. I will keep this posted.

wow… this is crazy! i’ve been working for clear for 2 mos (retention dept). i deal with about 30 callers wanting to cancel every day. some are @-holes for no reason (just wanting free stuff), but most people are upset for very good reason. i see a lot of people calling in upset because indirect sellers set them up with service when they’re out of coverage… these resellers piss me off because we have to deal with angry customers who don’t understand that we don’t set people up out of coverage, it was the greedy reseller… but i do understand why people would be upset, because ultimately they represent “clear” even if they aren’t clear employees. i’ve been reluctant to cancel my cox internet, eventhough i can get free clear service, because frankly… i’m scared to see how it’s going to work in my home! i bought a “clearspot” and it works fine, i actually like it… but i don’t think i could deal with my home internet going out for hours at a time like some of you all have. for those who have said the management and higher-ups in vegas suck; you’re absolutely right. there are too many chiefs, not enough indians… that jo-ann chick has a stick up her @ss too, she is soooo rude, disrespectful, and unfriendly. they are hiring every two weeks. why?? because people can’t deal with the stress and pressure from both the customers and the management. they are extremely unorganized and very snotty. some of them walk around like they’re the “sh*t”, but have the mental capacity of 8th graders… and these people are supposed to be my managers??? all i can say is, this is just a temporary job for me until i’m finished with school and the job market improves in vegas… this is definitely not a company i want to make a career out of. i’m sorry you all have had such a hard time.

BEWARE! This summer, I took over a Clearwire contract from another unhappy customer (my old roommate). Huge mistake! I was quoted a price of $40.00 a month (without pre-scheduled increase) for 4G Wireless Internet Service by Clear.com. The original Clearwire equipment that I purchased didn’t work properly, so Clear sent several different versions of the equipment – but none worked. Their 4G equipment could not get and hold a proper signal. They finally sent me the (much slower) 3G/4G equipment – And, I was told that my monthly service charge would go down to $25.00 per month since the service would be much slower. Instead, my monthly service charge more than doubled to $55.00 per month. I called and complained, and they (Supervisor Sharon) ungraciously lowered it to $40.00, but said that it would raise again to $55.00 per month in six months. I did not agree to this contract – ever! Clear.com did not provide the 4G Service OR the Price that they promised. NOTE: Before switching to Clear.com, I was paying $25.00 per month with TimeWarner. I should have never left. I have been victimized by a bait-and-switch scam by Clear.com. This is a clear cut case of a deceptive trade practice. BEWARE!

I told them from the beginning it was not working and I wanted this cancelled. Where do I sign up for the Lawsuit!! This is the worst. I have another server now but Clearwire is still charging me. They say I have to pay a restocking fee and I “might” get a refund. I have paid since October without ANY service. When I tried to cancel in the past the cost was not $40 it was much higher… We’ll see if this works. I HATE CLEAR/CLEARWIRE. A leopard never changes its spots!

I have been a customer of clearwire since; 12/09/2009. Since that date I have struggled to stay connected to the internet on the daily. My internet connection is lost sometimes as often as 3 to 4 times a day, other times I am unable to connect for the entire day. Calling customer service on the all day connection loss only obtains a recording stating they are aware of a problem in my area and technicians are working hard to have it restored soon. Often it would take the entire day and into the next day to regain a connection. I signed a 2 year contract for $19.99 a month after being told that an initial payment of $35.44 would be debited from my account. Well it turns out $35.44 is being debited from my account every month for the 10 months I’ve been enrolled as a customer. I plan to pay the penalty for early termination after the 1 year anniversary in an attempt to satisfy a reasonable effort to honor a standard contract timespan. I await to see if problems ending service with Clear will arise at that point. However I currently remain an extremely unsatisfied customer and am prepared to take whatever steps necesarry to end any future contract or involvement with this unreasonably unreliable and extremely unsatisfactory company.
PS: Where do I sign up for the lawsuit??

As customers of Clear, it should be evident to Clear that is their responsibility to serve us… not vice-a-versa. When I subscribed to Clear back in June 2010, the cust service reps were very helpful. When the modems arrived (within just a few days) I had no problems returning the one that wasn’t working and was impressed that the replacement was sent overnite, too. Today, in an attempt to make arrangements to have my account setup as to “NOT” permitting Clear access to my bank acct via my credit card, I was treated like some kind of pariah. The representatives along with the supervisors could only regurgitate the canned scripting that they are instructed to use. That is so deplorable it’s insulting on every level. Then to be treated as if all of the responisibility of ensuring the account billing information is correct rests upon me in such a rude manner, is adding insult to injury. I am not an embicile… I understand the need for cost effectiveness but the fact remains, Clear is to “BE THERE” for the customer, not the other way around. Working with Clear is like working with DHL Express (the courier service company)… they can’t tell you what they CAN DO… they can only tell you what they CANNOT DO. They are pathetic.

I had Clearwire a couple years ago. We were signed up fraudulently by the rep and found out later we are not even IN their service area. So of course it never worked well at all and we got the run around many times from customer service. Finally when I demanded they send somebody out to see what the problem was I was told they couldn’t send out a “truck roll” because I was out of the service area!! THEY told ME to cancel the service but when I did they then charged me $140.00 early termination fee to my credit card. When I asked them why the hell they signed me up when they KNEW I wasn’t in their area all they could mumble was “I don’t know”!! And by the way I have never been successfull getting the early termination fee back!!

Hello,
I have been sucked into this terrible service scam as well. First week started out with blazing speeds as promised and from the second week on I have had nothing but unreliable, interrupted service for which customer service gives no real explanation. They only try to blame it on the location of modem & your own computer cache. Anyone with computer experience will instantly recognize their bull$#@$# resolution tactics. They never resolved my slow speeds, never called me back as promised and I am stuck paying for the most aggravating service ever. I work from home and need reliable service so this has put a HUGE inconvenience on me. I hope this company is put in check!

Hello,
My story is the same as Jessica. When I first purchased this service I could run Netflix and two laptops on internet with downloads. However after the first 2 months my speed has been slower than a snail moving. I called Slowwire the and the first time they told me there was a tower problem and move my modem to the neighbors apt. which was on the other side of the building where there is two towers (not the 1 on my side). Huhm, when I signed up they didn’t say you will have better service if you have more than 1 tower! Second time I called I was deemed a high user, huhm interesting…. I have my parents whom have their service and use the net more than I do and they have fine service….
Hate this service.

I have had communication problems from the get go. I purchased 3 meg down and 1 meg up. I seldom receive the agreed amount and when I call to report .26 meg download .27 upload. This is happening now as I barely can surf the web. They also tell me to not download movies and music for a few days, this is totally unacceptable according to FCC rules, regulations and consumer protection. I have ordered new service from another provider and once I’m up and running and will then call to cancel my service and will return equipment the same day. If they charge me a cancellation fee is going to make me postal. STAY AWAY FROM CLEAR!

DONT GET CLEARWIRE ITS NOT WORTH THE MONEY OR ENERGY OF FIGHTING WITH STUPID PEOPLE!!!!!
I started services with clearwire around April or May 2009. And about idk 3 months ago they sent us a new modem,
suposedly ‘faster”. However I would dissagree completely! I have had nothing but problem after problem. I use my internet for everything. T.V., majic jack (telephone) ect…, and would like to take classes online but as everyone here can see Its not reliable enough for that. My husband was umemployed for about 8 months and had been filling out applications online and in stores; well, our only way for anyone to contact us was through our majic jack, needless to say im sure there where most likely jobs calling him that could not get through. So who knows if CLEARWIRE is the reason for him not getting a job until recently.
We chatted with them for 5 hours despritly waiting for one of the CSR’s (customer Service Reps) to acctually help us with the problem, all 5 of them wanted to tell us to ; Restart our computer; take it out of the SP and plug it into a wall outlet, take it away 6 feets from all electronics, make sure is in a window restart it agian….None of witch worked so then we get on with another person and they tell us to call them, OKAY, AFTER TELLING THESE STUPID ASS PEOPLE OVER AND OVER AGIAN….I HAVE TO HAVE A FULL CONECTION TO BE ABLE TO CALL ANYONE BECAUSE I HAVE MAJIC JACK, OTHER WISE THE CALL IS NOT GOING TO COME THROUGH ENOUGH TO HEAR ANYTHING YOUR SAYING!!!! Then they all of a sudden wanted to transfer me to a Manager… OH BUT WAIT You’ll have to call us later because there arent any managers in right now that can help you. SOB!!! OH Yeah not to mention this was the same day my husband was suppose to be getting a call to find out when his interview was,,,,,
YEAH, NEEEEEVVVER GET CLEARWIRE!!! DONT LISTEN TO THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE GOOD THINGS TO SAY ABOUT IT BECAUSE CHANCES ARE THEY PROBABLY ARE WORKING FOR THEM AND/OR THEY ARE OUT OF THEIR MINDS…. p.s. if anyone want to do a class action with me please let me know. THANKS Amber

I’ve been getting .28 kbps down and .41 kbps up for the past week. I called them up the other day (probably the 10th time since I got the service a year ago) and the guy on the other end of the phone had me doing all this retarded stuff like shutting off my firewall and deleting my cookies EVEN THOUGH I told the guy it’s not on my end it’s your end. The Xbox Live would be working if it was a problem with my computer. But it’s not. Well finally I get tired of the guy putting me on hold to do “research” every coupole of minutes so I hang up on him and decide I’ll call back the next day when I have a bit more patience. I go to work, do my thing, get home at about midnight and run a speed test and it says the same thing .28 down, .41 up, no change. I go work and then at about 2am I run another speed test just because I was curious and I’m suddenly getting 2.0 kbps down and 1.0 up. WTF?? Well, it was working again so I didn’t bother calling customer service again. Fast forward 24 hours later. 2am again. Wow my speed is at .28 down and .41 up again. It’s my computer? Fuck you Clearwire. Fuck you dead. I am so sick and tired of this service. I can’t afford the $220 termination fee. And I heard that when your contract is up they automatically renew your contract without asking you if you would like to renew it. Is that even legal? I want to know how to get in on this lawsuit. I want to sue the hell out of this company not to get rich off of them (though I’m sure we all could) but just so I can fuck them like they have fucked me. ROT IN FUCKING HELL CLEARWIRE!

Bought the unlimited Clear product at the end of September 2010. I know the “Head” of the direct sales force for Clear and actually sold with him when this force opened in Portland, Oregon in December 2008. I spoke with him again tonight because my connection has gone from GREAT to worse than dial-up speeds. I told him I called customer service first and tried to trouble shoot the problem with 2 different techs. They tried EVERYTHING in the book…..and after 2 HOURS on the phone they said “Sorry. We’ll have someone go check the tower in your area. It could take up to 30 days.” I asked them for a new modem, they said no. I asked them for a full month’s credit or to prorate the bill once the problem was fixed.
They said no again. I specifically said to the rep “So basically I’m screwed for 30 days with worse than dial-up speeds because your tower doesn’t work.” The rep said “Yes, sir. Sorry” WTF???
Back to my friend….he admitted that Clear laid-off 15% of their entire work force approximately 2 weeks ago and he has been trying to find out why. He said Clear has been having issues with other towers and is getting really frustrated with Corporate and their lack of communication. My friend is literally THE top of the company on the “Door to Door” or Direct Sales force. We live in Utah right now. He is out-of-town 3 weeks per month and has been since December of 2008 when the company opened the Direct Sales team. He opened Portland, Washington, Utah, Las Vegas, St. Louis, Atlanta, Chicago, and re-opened in Maryland. Everything seemed to be going pretty good until a few weeks ago when he learned of the 15% workforce layoff.
Hopefully it’s simply a matter of updating, repairing, or upgrading the towers. If not, Clear could be in big trouble and as we all know their customer service is terrible! My friend was not happy at all with my story and told me I could go by his house and pick up one of the modems he uses at home until the problem is fixed. I’ll do that tomorrow and see what happens.

I had the WORST experience with CLEAR…..EVER!!! I started my service with them about 3 years ago and went through so much drama with them. They charged my account 10 times in one day….yes 10!!! It cost me over $300 in overdraft fees and they told me they would not credit it back because that is in their policy not to do so. I finally let the whole thing go because I needed the service as it was the only thing available in my area. Now, I am having more issues because they always have different stories depending on who u talk to . I called them to let them know I needed to suspend my service….outside of my contract, and they told me that would not be a problem. Now I am trying to get it cut back on and they want me to pay triple what I should be paying. I REFUSE to give them anything extra, especially since I already paid over $300 to a bank because of them.

Joined Clearwire in 2009 July 15 I believe… At 4 and 5 bar reception the service was good at first and for the price they were the best I could afford at that time.
Then winter came and service was horrible during rain. Horrible on cloudy days for some reason.
I moved in the same city closer to the towers and the connection worsened. As weeks went on I moved my desk around… sat up a milk crate on the desk so I could get the modem right in front of the window. I was able to pull 4 bars and a decent connection. But then around June of this year it began getting crappy. I would never move the modem but it would fall to 3 bars… then 2, then 1 and then would disconnect and go into search for signal mode.
My friend tells me that he was sent a new modem and that Clearwire was changing their name to Clear and apparently doubling the speed from 1.5 megs to 3 or even 4.
I was thrilled and went on the site to see if it was available in my town and it was so I ordered it and had it in just a couple days.
Worked great for awhile. I could now watch netflix streaming movies… youtube was faster etc… Then after a short time every night around 12 midnight the connection slowed to a crawl. After 2 am or so it would many times stop altogether and go into search mode and stay that way til 5, 6 or 7 am.
I put up with this for 6 weeks knowing that it was likely due to all the new updates for the faster modems. But after 6 weeks c’mon… It was getting worse and doing the search mode thing during the day as well.
I finally called and complained and asked how long this would go on and could not be told even an estimate.
I did happen to get a month service charge credited to me but that was because I had referred someone to Clearwire 16 months ago and had still not received the $25 American express gift card.
Over this past week my internet with clearwire was almost unusable for 2 days… I had enough and called a cable company who was offering 12 – 15 megs at $29 a month and 2 days later I now have very fast internet that works round the clock.
I will be doing all I can to NOT pay Clear another dime.

CLEAR is censoring and “archiving” posts in their customer forum at a record pace, most likely due to the throttling (which is most likely due to their lack of funds to pay carriers for the “unlimited” bandwidth they are selling). As of 11/20, they’d already nearly doubled October’s record number of deletions and other editorial actions. See http://groups.google.com/group/clear-wimax-uncensored for more, including a downloadable CSV file.

I have not had working service with clear for over two months. I called multiple times and was given the same run-around and was forced more than once to test my modem in every possible location in my home. It was obvious this was not the problem but they insist that I am in a “good coverage area”. No one did anything to try to fix or address this issue and yet they of course find the time to call me multiple times a day looking for the payment that I told them I refuse to send. This is a complete SCAM. I have never seen a company in operation with more negative press about it. They DO NOT provide acceptable working internet service. PLEASE do yourself a favor and stay far away.

I have used clearwire for several years now. I was happy for the first year and a half, but this last 3 to 5 months the speed has dropped off (most of the time) to the point of being like a 28k dial up. The first year or more it was pretty good (1.5 mbps) most of the time (checked on Speakeasy speed test). This sucks because I pay for 1.5 mbps and I no longer get it. I believe their system is now overloaded with users, or they “throttle” or to much streaming video is using up available bandwidth. Which ever the case, they will being losing me as a customer. Oh yes, I contacted their tech support and they gave me the run around trying to figure out “what was wrong with my computer”, what a joke!!
I will now have to switch companies, get a new e-mail address, what a pain!!

Amber,
I read your comment and have had a very similar experience. I am currently still with clearwire. As I am seeing a lot with other users, we are all experiencing the same issues. I want to see a class action lawsuit filed! When I first bought my service with Clearwire, I too was promised a rebate. It was for a 100 dollar gift card to Best Buy that I NEVER RECEIVED! I called repeatedly to both Clearwire and Best Buy and got the run around. After 3 years, I have still yet to see my rebate. I am supposedly between 3 towers and get poor quality. Sometimes it works just fine, but often times my connection drops or goes out for several hours at a time. I have been through the ringer with their technicians trying to resolve the connection issues. After my 2 year agreement was up, I decided I had enough and was not going to renew my contract and try to save up to buy services elsewhere. I went with Clearwire after having been with a competitor that jacked my rates up and was dropping connection left and right at certain times of the day. I’m on a limited income. Their prices and promise of better connection speeds sucked me in, and kept me around. All the lies they told me on the phone kept me believing they were a good company and that I was having issues with my computer, not their service. I finally called them last night to have them troubleshoot my connection one last time. I have the new 4G router. I was going to cancel my service some months ago when I was informed by a service rep that my connection would improve if I would allow them to send me the new router. They also gave me a discount on my bill “for being a loyal customer.” When I received the new modem, it worked great for about a couple of weeks, then dropped off again, worse than the old 3G service. When I called last night, the service rep was most helpful. He brought up maps, etc. and determined that I had my modem facing the wrong way. He asked me to take the modem to a different part of the house, to point it in the direction of a better tower signal, and I still could not latch on to a good signal. At best I get one consistent bar. He explained to me that I should get at least 3 to take full advantage of the service. I have never had 3 bars. After exhausting all his options, he told me that I need to contact account services to try to resolve the matter. He didn’t say it directly, but I was able to figure out that he was suggesting that the company will reduce my bill to be acceptable or allow me to recoup some of my losses. I will see what I can try tomorrow and post my experience here. I was lied to for 3 years, and taken for my money, for service they could not provide me, but instead lied to me and made me feel as though I had a problem, not them. I am furious, especially after finding this website. For sure I am going to bundle internet into my existing cable account. This has to stop, and as a consumer, I will take steps necessary to see to it that they are stopped and the rest of Clearwire’s customers are taken care of or made fully aware of these atrocities. I can only imagine the hundreds of customers that are not fully aware of computer technology that actually believe that their computers are to blame for the poor service, the hundreds that believe what they say because they know no better. People who are stuck in contracts or have no other options like me, who are on limited or fixed incomes and can’t go anywhere else at this time. I have already contacted the law firm that filed a class action lawsuit in 2009 against them, and I hope to hear back from them, or find a law firm that will help us! Come hell or high water, Clearwire will pay!

lawsuit. They have been unhelpful in fixing the tower near my home
and will not provide me any alternatives. Capped b/w at .25 mbps
download, what is this about? I’ve purchased home and mobile
service for 6 mbps, and can’t get even 25% of that speed. Then my
connection drops constantly, ping locks are showing that the
connection is dropping every 5 minutes for a 10 – 20 minutes
period, I’m just fed up!!! I hope to get some relief on this soon.
Luckily there is no contract for me and I can cancel at will, but
i’ve already paid for 2 months of service that I’m not
receiving!!!!

I had them for a month. Found a way to cut off the money
tree. Now they are bugging me to come back and enjoy the new 4g.
How can we make this any clearer?. The terms of service suck. The
caps suck. Support sucks. It;s almost 2011. Service without a
reasonable streaming capacity is worthless. Change or die.

I’ve had my service since xhom and when XHOM had the
service it was great! I got speeds around 4-8 mb/s now its averages
.4 to .9 mb/s no matter what time of the day I try it. I was told
that it depends on the time of the day I’m using it and more users
maybe using up the bandwidth, but we all know its bogus. Ive tried
everything and nothing I can do I have FULL bars for connection and
I’m in the heart of baltimore city where the service was launched 3
years ago with XOHM i surely miss it when they had the company my
speeds rocked. Now it just sucks…..

My story is almost identical to everyone else’s; support telling me to power off the computer and modem and rebooting everything (can you even believe that crap???), bandwidths of less than 0.3Mbs typical and over $70 for this wretched garbage. Tech support could dial it in to 10Mbs but that would only last less than 10 minutes and never return and usually would only last while I was in a ‘chat’ session with support.
Comcast offers a better deal, same coverage, but I think they use the same infrastructure.
Good-bye Clearwipe, hello Comcast.

CLEAR RIPPED ME OFF!!!
They committed to give me service speeds of 3mbps-6mbps but never produced those numbers. In fact over the last few weeks I have gotten download speeds of 0.27 and an average of 0.32! I worked with them for 16 months before I finally said “THAT’s ENOUGH”. I cancelled my account and told them to refund me for the last month of service as well as the one that they just charged me for 3 days ago. The manager, Gregory H ext. 37450, let me cancel my account and then he told me that since I cancelled my account they can’t refund me any money.
CLEAR SUCKS!
I’m soooo frustrated cause now I had to go spend $131 just to get internet with someone else!
CLEAR is NOT a trustworthy and reliable company! They are NOT a good company, their WiMax service SUCKS and so do their policies! They are only out to make a buck! The Co-Chairman makes $705,462 per year- not including his $630,000 bonus- and they won’t refund me $121.
CLEAR SUCKS!!!!!!!!!
This was the last of 24 service calls just in the last 7 months! The deserved to get sued for false advertising and immoral/illegal business practices! Isn’t there something called business ethics anymore?!
CLEAR SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

a CLEAR representative told me tonight that they “manage” service speeds to ensure that “higher usage customers” don’t bog down the system. What about when YOU are the “higher usage customer” and you still don’t get 25% of the advertised speeds!
CLEAR SUCKS!!!
They know that they are manipulating the power output and bandwidth but pretend like they don’t know what the problem is! I’m so angry I could cry! This just isn’t right! They shouldn’t be able to lie, cheat, and steal like this! PLEASE SUE THEIR PANTS OFF!!!!!!!!
CLEAR SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had a horrible experience the first time with no signal, refusal to fix by tech support, long time for refund. So I wasamazed whwn CLEAR offered to bring me back for $25 a month for 6 months. OK i was in desperate need of Internet. First CLEAR sent the wrong modem for my MAC OS, charged me $44 which I was not advised , Of course auto payment Then qafter screaming for a new modem and return label I wait 2 wks. The original price withsrawal still not refuded. On the 23 March CLEAR auto withdrew $44 again. No I can’t get customer service to cancel and refund $. I am trying with my bank to stop the auto payments BUT I see no refund in the future. Where do I sign up for th class action suit against CLEAR?

I was fooled by a great sales program and I’m paying for it. Terrible service from product, help tech, signal-speed., and talking to them is like talking to a wall.

Where was this website when I signed up with these losers a week ago? At least you guys get to experience your service. I never received my equipment in the mail. It was left in front of my door by FedEx? Sure it was. Home all day and no paper left on my door, nor did I sign for anything. I’m canceling their service before it’s too late.

I had to cancel my service because clear had cup my speed in half.
They offer me no termination fee to cancel but 4 weeks pas by and they are withdrawing money from my account $40 for each device restocking fee.
I had called clear today and they saying you have to pay for termination.

For those of ya’ll having problems with Clearwire its only going to get even worse from here on out! Why you might ask? Well besides reading many of your posts about lagging service and billing issues, they are now closing BOTH U.S. call centers down! So for those of you HATE having to talk to some one who cant speak english (i know cuz Im one of those people) good luck trying to decipher what those people are talking about! The Las Vegas call center will be closed down by Aug. 7th and the Milton, FL call center will close its doors on Oct. 24th. Clearwire has done nothing but LIED to their employees about closing down. So if they are lying to their employees, then what makes you think that they are not lying to you??? I do know that the Milton, Fl call center sent out letters of laying people off between now and Oct. 24th. So if you have a problem with billing, technical issues or any other issues regarding your services….expect a really longer wait time to talk to someone! How do I know? Because Im a disgruntled fiancee of a person who formally worked for Clearwire (2008-2011) . He told them 2 days before they started more stuff about laying people off to Kiss it!
