Everybody seems to have a similar story, here is my recommendation. Pick a day and everyone
goes out to the nearest mall with a sign. You will get press and coverage and stop other people from spending hours on trying to sort
    out details.

It is simple, however, time consuming. I finally got it in writing after numerous requests that I do not have a contract. This behaviour is not OK, the reason in America that people have jobs is because you support them with a monthly fee. Picket them in every city near a mall, and let’s see who signs up.

In the crazies, I was told by my rep that he is not on commission, however, he is on bonus

Apparently, like many others, I got ripped off by these people. I had a contract. I was told that if I moved outside of service area, I would NOT be charged the early cancellation fee. After the initial 2 years, they renewed the contract without advising me in any way. When I questioned them about this, I was advised that it automatically renewed. I was assured then that I could still move and get out of the contract, if there was no service in the area. About 8 months later, I did move to an area where they had no service. I advised them of such, and they tried to claim that there was no such stipulation in my contract and that I would be subject to the cancellation fee, regardless. After speaking to a supervisor, I was told to mail in proof of my new address, provided by the postal service. I mailed in the proof, and also returned my equipment. Two months later, they called trying to collect, claiming I’d never returned their equipment. I advised them that I had, and they said they’d check into it and that was the last I heard until today, when I got a collection agency letter, demanding over $500 for the equipment, a cancellation fee, and other charges. These guys are a bunch of crooks but I’m not going to sit quietly. I am not one to sit and take this kind of garbage. They will deal with me, or they will deal with the press – their choice!

I signed up for Clearwire in 2006 when they moved into town. I was satisfied for 3 years. I was under the impression I had a 24-month contract, which expired in 2008. I called Clearwire to check on the status of my contract in April 2009 and was informed I was no longer in a contract, but on month-to-month. Back in Dec. 2008 a Clearwire tech came by my office and dropped off a pc card modem for my laptop with no mention of anything other than an additional $20 per month on my existing bill. Now it’s May and when I called they said I was in a contract because of the pc card modem back in Dec 2008, BUT, there are options to canceling.

I can re-sell my pc card modem and antenna by advertising them on Craig’sList and eBay by offering no transfer fees, no set-up fees, just take over my monthly payments with another person’s credit card.
or, pay a cancel penalty of an undisclosed amount.
or cut-off their authorization to suck $$ from my credit card and take the collection beatings.

yes clear wire ripped me off to i canceled the service in 2007 its almost 2010 and they sent me a bill for 520.00 because they cant find a modem i sent them almost three years ago. the kicker is the service never really worked that good

I was told that when my husband and I moved that my service is great there. Well when i moved my service sucked. I am about ready to throw this modem out the window. I called to see if there is a way they can help me they sent me the installan which finds the connection. Well that doesnt work either. When i get on the computer its only for 1/2 hour. I get only one bar and in the summer i get two bars. Takes me forever to get on a website when i have two bars. I tried to cancel but they want me to pay $150.00. I dont think that is right. I told them many times that i dont think its fair that i have to pay that even though the contract states it but it doesnt state that if i am lied to i would still have to pay it. I dont want to pay that for the fact that they claim i have perfect service here. I want to get a new internet provider but thats the only thing stopping me. I just dont know what to do…

Hey everyone. I was recently contacted by Clearwire about a job in their Kirkland, WA office. Can anyone out there give me some insight on what it’s like to work there? I have worked for top-tier tech companies in the past and am concerned about moving to a newer company in such a volatile marketplace (and, as this site shows, Clearwire has some major customer service issues). Any comments–good or bad– would be greatly appreciated!!!

I agree with everything you have said. But Clearwire is slick in that they put everything in fine print in the “terms of service” that you agreed to when you signed up for service. I am not surprised that Clearwire has no record of your return modem. Their employees are often incompetent because they hire those people who will only work for $12 per hour. You get what you pay for in the workplace. I also heard they didn’t get raises this year, so the employees probably care even less.

  11. By Johnny Johnson on Jun 5, 2009 | Reply

I hope you didn’t take that job..lol They don’t pay shit but they expect you to work very hard. Their products are shit and you get to take all the flack from upset customers. Good luck with that.

Customer for a year and half when decided to change servers. Had signed a 1 year contract that they are claiming was a 2 year contract. Also when I called to upgrade service and told them I did not want to extend contract by upgrading my service up or back down that I would not have my contract extended. They can neither show me proof of written contract or play my recorded conversation agreeing to a longer contract. But they say I can pay to get out of it. I will fight till my contract is up. My work provides me an attorney and I have contacted them. Wish me luck.

I was informed by two different customer service representatives at the Honolulu main office that Clearwire is not designed to provide streaming video or streaming audio. The local tower that services my home area is past capacity for service. Any UTube clip takes hours to play and after considerable buffering it only plays 2 seconds of any choice.

The tech in Nevada was good enough to call me and explain the problem. He attempted to overide the signal to another less utilized tower some 10-12 blocks away but I am to close to the Marco Polo tower.

They GENEROUSLY upped my download speed from 768 to 1.5, but when they pour a shitty signal it doesn’t matter how much I can receive when they can’t produce enough for decent service.

Now they want me to wait 4-6 more months till they can screw me with the new 4G technology.

If they can’t service the customers they now have why should ANYONE trust them on a current or future contract.

Hi I just spent a cumulative two hours on the phone in regards to billing with clearwire with no resolution. This is in regards to termination fees and late billing. Firstly, we tried back in september to cancel service which failed miserably due to clearwire’s incompetent staff. They eventually terminated service and are now holding us liable for early termination charges as well as the costs for the modem(which was returned some time ago). They make it difficult to have a cogent conversation with them in that their staff are poorly trained, argumentative, and lack basic customer service skills. I would gladly join a class action law suit. I have several more hours of unpleasant conversation ahead I’m not looking forward too….

My frustration with this service is at an all-time high. I tolerated the slow speeds and inability to watch certain videos and such, but this business of dropping the entire connection every couple of minutes is insane! Clearwire is not giving me the service I contracted for and am not able to do my work, which is causing me all kinds of difficulties. I despise Clearwire and their snotty staff whose offers to “help” by further disconnecting my service, telling me how to jump through hoops to get the modem to work, etc. are not only no help at all but are downright insulting. I feel like I’m being ripped off (which I am) and can’t afford to switch providers at the moment. I do intend to switch ASAP, but I still feel like Clearwire owes me a refund for the half-service they are providing. I will happily join a class-action lawsuit. Thanks for nothing Clearwire, and your janky staff needs to go back to work digging ditches and cleaning out toilets. What a scheme!

We signed up for Clearwire when my husband accepted a job in TX. We did not have phone service and Clearwire (Clear) had a good deal and my in laws had the service. The service is the worst possible that I have ever dealt with. They want to charge us the $300 for early termination fees because we are moving and they do not service the area. They said we could find a friend or family member to take over then there would be no early termination fees. Our service has not worked since we started calling in June 09. They have not offered to reduce the bill they want you to keep paying even though they cannot fix the service. They are the biggest ripoffs. I feel sorry for the people that work for them, because if they know how the company is then they are just ripping people off too.

When I signed up for Clearwire, I was of the understanding that I could cancel my contract by calling their customer service line. Whenever I attempt to do so, I get a recording telling me to “call back during our regular business hours” despite the fact that I am calling during those hours. I was aware of the early termination fee and am prepared to pay it, but I was not aware that early termination of my service would be made impossible. Under my contract, Clearwire is obliged to allow me to cancel my account by phone during the times their customer service lines are listed as open (1) in the contract, (2) on the company’s Website, and (3) as told to me (and written on a business card) by a Clearwire retail location representative. Clearwire has failed to live up to this obligation.

Clearwire is a fuckin’ joke! This company is the most unprofessional company I have ever dealt with and if you are reading this before you join their service….DON’T! They will screw you every which way possible. My situation was that my 2 year contract was over and I could no longer afford it. I called them to cancel and they started their whole schpeel about how I could get more if I signed up for another year contract, have it “sleep” for 6 months free and then have it go back on at a discount without any problems. Then keep the service for the last 6 months and cancel anytime. I constantly told them I JUST WANT TO CANCEL MY SERVICE! For the next 15 minutes, I continued on my tyraid and eventually the CSR lied to me and said ok, we’ll turn it off but reactivationCAN be done in 6 months if you change your mind. I told her if I don’t “reactivate”, will it cancel on it’s own with NO penalty to me? She answered YES. Six months lter, I get a call from tem saying they need my credit card to charge it for the 7th month. I explained the whole scenerio to the next idiot I spoke to and explained what happened and he said, no you were told you HAVE TO reactivate your subscription after 6 months. I became so IRATE, I literally was shaking from head to toe with anger. I spoke to that CSR’s manager and eventually the manager’s boss and still got the run around. I yelled and explained that there is nothing they can do to get my money and I will never ever pay them. They had the nerve to say that per my first conversation, which they have RECORDED, I said ok to this agreement. I threatened them with the challenge of bringing up the taped conversation and playing for me to hear the “agreement” and they said they couldn’t play it for me, but that they confirmed that it was said by me.
I hope whoever they are who “helped” me all burn in hell for the lies they tell. Before hanging up on them I asked, how the hell do you guys sleep at night knowing you screw people over all the time like you’re screwing me? FUCK CLEARWIRE…DON’T EVER GET IT…

Clearwire is awful! I tried there service in early 2008, when I called and set up the service the woman never mentioned there was a 2 year contract, nor the ccharge for th emodem was $200. A month or two into it I lost one of the modems when my car was stolen, the modem along with my laptop was in the car. When I called to replace it, they said sure no problem we will send it right out. The next month when I got the bill, it was $247! I called to get an explanation, they told me it was from the lost modem. I asked them why they never mentioned that to me when I asked to replace it. In that conversation I asked to cancel my service. A few months later they cancelled my account due to non-payment, charged me an additional months fee $37, early cancellation fee $180, equipment cancellation fee $200, suspension fee $25, and another equipment cancellation fee of $200. When I called a few months later the bill was only up to $357, which they said was for the modem. Last week I pulled my credit report and saw a charge for $757. I had no idea what it was from and called the credit agency. Later after speaking with clearwire and listening to their balonie they are trying to have me pay $757 for cancelling their service. In the first place I was never told of the contract or the stipulations to cancelling. I will never pay this, I have returned their modem and consider myself “free” of them. Clearwire should go bankrupt because of their business practices. Their charge can sit on my credit report until I die, because I am not paying!! Don’t be fooled by there kind words and we can do anything to help you!

They cannot produce a contract they claim I entered into. They did the same thing to me about the 6 months thing where I could reactivate my service if I wanted. I didn’t and they automatically started billing me again, and say it will cost $155.00 EFT, plus charge me for the modem if I don’t return it. How do I get in the class action lawsuit?

I’m a new customer to Clear here in Portland, OR. In the first few weeks, the network has been unavailable for 2 days. I have an unobstructed view of the transmitter tower from my house, and a strong signal, but the IP connection is dead or up & down like a yoyo — totally unusable.

I called their customer service line several times to complain, and told them I would need to cancel in the future if they couldn’t provide a reliable “always on” service as advertised. They threatened me with a $150 cancellation fee, even if I returned their WiMAX modem in original packaging.

Surreal, I plan on sending a complaint to the Oregon Attorney General’s office that draws attention to their shenanigans. I suggest others do so as well.

  32. By Kristoffer Martin on Dec 18, 2009 | Reply

Well after being on the phone with clearwire’s primary customer service center I got a phone # to call that was a different call center. I was calling to complain about the high cost of the service I was paying for. As it were, in my area, (Eau Claire Wisconsin) I was paying $44/month for 1.5 meg service. That is roughly $40/meg of service, in comparison that is 12 times the cost of all other providers in my area. Charter cable charges for $10/meg at 1 meg service, for $30 10meg service, and $60 for 20meg service ($3/merg), AT&T DSL is similar to this. I was calling to talk to the main CEO, of course I couldn’t reach him, but I did get a reduction in total cost from $44/month to 29.99/month.

It still bothers me, however, that they are so much more expensive for a poor service, or the fact that they cost even more for a 3 meg service (60-70 bucks), or the fact they are relying on very old (4+ yrs) technology. Even now my antenna is at 4 bars and gets that barely sitting on top of a swiffer box that is on top of my computer in my second story apartment. The service is crap.

My experience with the service isn’t as bad as some of you, since I live very close to two towers that have Clearwire antennas on them. Nevertheless, the service simply is not as advertised. Cox cable is too expensive, but they’ve got it all over Clearwire. My advice is to keep Cox, say a few curse words when you pay them each month, and enjoy connection speeds that Clearwire can only lie about. I’m planning to call and cancel my Clearwire service, pay the fee, and chalk it up to experience.

  40. By Tracy C on Feb 11, 2010 | Reply

I had Cox here yesterday to re-install service. Now I remember what it’s like to actually have some download speed! And that’s with Cox’s slowest plan! I have to pay a fee of $104.00 to Clearwire, but I don’t care. I just want rid of the “service.”

In the places where Cox and Clear are together Cox is lowering their prices. They even have a starter tier level for 23.00 a month. Its 1.5 mbps. Still faster then Clear. They also have a 3 month promo on the higher tier for 19.99 right now.

Interesting. I just got sent home from my 1st day of training at clearwire (aka: clear), claiming I have something on my background check. I almost didn’t get the job because the recruiter / interviewer stated I was ” overqualified “. This was the first thing out of his mouth 3 weeks ago when I attended the job fair, because I have a degree in I.T. and extensive experience. Problem is lack of work, everybody downsizing, economy, etc… So I’m humbling myself because $12 / hr is better than most tech support positions here in Vegas. I was happy to find work, so ignorantly did not do my homework (ie: this site) before starting the hiring process. Makes sense now. I’m not arguing the fact there may be a ding in my past, but surely nothing that would impair the position they were offering (tech support). I see now after visiting here they did me a favor. I guess when your a crook you can’t afford to have a crook for a friend! lol

I had clearwire back in 2005 and my contract ended in 2007 and for two years after my contract ended they debited my bank acount for 50.00 a month for two years and when I finally started seeing my statements and realized what was going on I called clearwire and they said they would fix it after me calling 15 times they never handled it. So I just paid the huge bill that went to collections after all these years of them stealing money from my account. I hope somebody can get a serious lawsuit going against them.

I had service with Clear for less than a month, I tried to cancel my service after 8 days because the modem I was sent did not receive enough signal at my location. We were talked into trying a “stronger” modem and asked to please wait a little longer and my 14 day trial period would be extended. I agreed and waited for the second modem. While waiting, I used the on-the-go mobile internet 3 times. After receiving the “stronger” modem, I realized it was NOT stronger than the one I had already received and tried to cancel again. They tried to talk me into staying and I stated that I was ABSOLUTELY not interested in staying with them. I received the email with my return labels and sent the equipment back. I asked when I would receive my refund. I was informed that it would be about 3-5 days. I paid $37.21 when I signed up, the refund I received $13.39. I called and was told my a representative that I would be getting the rest of my money and that he had sent the request to the billing department and I would receive an email in 24-48 hours. I waited and even gave them the benefit of the doubt that the weekend was involved. Monday evening I called again, and even had to escalate to a supervisor who told me that because the equipment was in my possession (even though I could not use it and DID NOT use it) I had to pay for the time it was here. This is sooo stupid. It is over $20, and it is the point that I was fighting over. I should never have been responsible for anything more than the first 8 days at the most, which I still never used their modem. I was never informed that I would be charged for additional time while allowing them to send me a new “stronger” modem. I was also told that they had good service in my area. When returning my items to the UPS store, the clerk told me “yeah we are sending a lot of these back, the service in our area just isn’t good.” HELLO, you think that they would know that, but obviously they just want to STEAL from people. I’m so glad I cancelled when I did and didn’t wait for them to rob me somemore. BEWARE…STAY AWAY FROM CLEAR!!!!!

This is truly unbelievable the way these people do business,I my self have had this service since June 1,2010 and now its September 22,2010 .Just can’t take it any more they have a speed cap on me now and before that they was cutting my service out every night from 10pm-12am to 7am-9am . I complained every night in the chat because as you know that after 10pm you can’t call them you have to wait until 9am.When 9am arrive my service comes back on by its,but they have techs in the chat that can never help you or get it up and running .Then they decide to send a new modem and no problem for three weeks .and for three weeks I have speed caped. I told the person in the chat today that thought that they were capping service, and that I have a prepaid account, and that I want a full refund because I already paid and have been paying for a service that you all advertise but can not or will not provide.to make a very long story short .told her that they just lost a costumer .But now I have a modem that I paid for and was a total waste of money because they advertise and con people into buying this.

I am an Air Force member and used clearwire during my training period. It was a poor internet provider and I could never get a signal. I canceled in October 2009 and they continued to bill me per month. They are claiming they never received the device they sent me for connection and are not giving options for cancellation. I know this can’t be legal and I will be following through with the cancellation even if it means closing my card.

After being a dealer of clear for aprx 5 months and very suspect pay checks we had to part ways. I can tell you Clear is having many issues with funding and many other things. I realize we all hate the big monopoly guys like comcast and verizon. The truth is though they are here to stay and have the funding in place to stay around. Our little dealer is owed over 14 thousand right now. And more to come. We are filig suit on them this week.

yea we don’t get raises. i have a friend that’s worked for the company for over 4 years. she was a manager at one point and even helped the lawyers write a previous terms of service agreement…she has never received even $.01 for a raise. any time you have a company that treats it’s employees this bad you’re going to have dissatisfied customers also.

I actually know guys who sell Clear. My husband and I were disgusted by them when we heard about five of them all bragging about how the rip people off. These guys sell door to door and pray on people who don’t know any better. The stories they were telling were awful. They basically tell people what they want to hear so they can get a sell. I was duped by one of these door to door sales men (I should have done my research) and I am now paying for it. I have just filed a complaint through my states attorney generals office and I suggest all of you do the same. The more complaints they have on a company the more they can do about it. So go ahead and file your complaint there. These guys need to go down. This is one of the worst business I have ever had to deal with! Bottom line, DON”T GET CLEAR!!
