Clearwire has the scam game down – User Submission by Frank D.

March 13th, 2009 | by Tim |

Where to begin? Let me first start off with, DO NOT ORDER CLEARWIRE! I started CW service in June ’08,under what I had ordered of being just a 1 yr contract. I was only paying for the 1.5mbps service, knowing that 2mbps was not that much more as for bandwidth concerns. In Jan ’09, I had taken a look at my acct online and was looking to make changes. I had contacted the live text support to find out if I made any changes, that my contract would stay the same. My question to the first rep was this, “If I make a upgrade on my services, will my contract be extended?”. Her reply was, “No,your contract will only be extended for any downgrades, not upgrades.” I then chose to ask another live text rep the same question, and recieved a different answer, which was the right answer. Any change to your acct is means for a renew on your contract. That was my first encounter with CW in a dishonest manner. Upon all this is when I found out they had me down for a 2 yr contract, I was livid. I had made a call to customer service to clarify this matter to no avail. They had gone so far to admit to me that the rep that set me up, probably entered the wrong promo code at startup. The rep then asked me to fax a copy of my contract to them. I told him, “that would be lovely, but CW is a paperless company” and that he should know that. I then asked him what he had on his end to say I signed up for 2 yrs? He responded with, “I have nothing on my end to show that”. I grilled him on why would he ask for a paper contract, when the company is paperless. He eventually hung up on me. Now then, in my quest to right a wrong, I have begun the long process of cancelling CW. In doing so, they want $180 from me to cancel a contract I never agreed to. I am and will continue to refuse to pay this amount. I have asked CW to provide me with any proof that I ordered 2yrs, other than what the store rep entered wrongly. After numerous inquiries on various topics concerning my CW acct and services, I have asked every CW rep if they had CW in their home? I wish I could be as dishonest as CW reps are but I cant. Out of 25-30 reps that I have had dialogue with via phone and live text, not one has CW. Thats right, not a single person amongst 25-30 has CW. The best part is the response is always the same, “Unfortunately, it’s not available in my area”. I have talked to reps in 5 states, including corporate offices, yet no one has it in their home. Why? Unlike some folks that use CW, I always had the speeds they were selling me, no complaints there. I have since had RR Turbo put in, at 8mbps for $55/month, compared to 1.5mbps at $37/month or 2mbps at $45/month. Any mind with any logic can see where the true disparity is in all this. If you choose not to abide by all these admissions about CW, and choose them for a ISP, then you most definitely have every intent of allowing yourself to be scammed by them, and deservingly so then. One last thought about CW, do not believe a word the reps say. Do yourself a favor and ask 5 reps the same inquiry and see what answers you get. Example: when I cancelled my acct, I issued a stop-payment on my CC for CW. The phone rep during my cancellation call noticed this and asked me for another CC to charge, I refused his request and asked for alternative methods of payment. He told me that there is no other alternative for payment. I asked him if he was sure and he responded with “100% positive”. I then asked him about the Western Union payment option that I was told about by two other reps from previous phone calls,in which he then hung up on me. My story is no different than others here. I would seriously hope people read these submissions and utilize good thought in making a right decision.Aloha.

Well do I even begin? Initially to start off the idea of a wireless internet sounded great, no wires to run through the house, and I was really sold on the wireless adapter that your child can attach to the x-box, The sales rep was sweet and seems so knowledgeable, WRONG! WRONG! I took them 3 days to get my account signed up and products delivered. I should have known then! when we attached the “so-called” wireless adapter to the x-box it didn’t work, In calling the customer service rep I found out the I not only couldn’t return this so called wireless adapter which was made for a laptop but also I have a 2 year contract and they want $ 180.00 for each service, Now I have the bundle (internet, phone and wireless adapter). $180.00 x 3 = $$$$$. So I told the customer service rep that I wanted to cancel the service, she informed me that I only had 48 hours after I signed up and it had been 3 days. So furious I just hung up. NOW! my phone modem was missing pieces, and I have a wireless adapter I can’t use and I am paying $83.00, thats pretty expensive for just internet! The phone service statics all the time, friends and family don’t even want to talk. Anytime I spoke with customer service they were rude, placed on hold for 30 minutes at a time. Clear View definetly scammed me and I would never recommend this service to anyone. I really think it would be worth me paying $540.00 instead of dealing with these people for 2 years. If you see clearwire run for your life!

I owned a home and bought another home in the same town and moved June of 2009. I had been having problems with my phone service with Clearwire, which they gave me a discount to purchase a cord to move the modem to a new location (I was one mile from site) to improve service, which didn’t help. I was not able to use Clearwire at the new address because there is no service available there. I was charged $240.00 for a contract buy-out, because they couldn’t offer me service and I was under contract. I would never recommend their service for anyone to use.
