Clearwire has the scam game down – User Submission by Frank D.

March 13th, 2009 | by Admin |

Where to begin? Let me first start off with, DO NOT ORDER CLEARWIRE! I started CW service in June ’08,under what I had ordered of being just a 1 yr contract. I was only paying for the 1.5mbps service, knowing that 2mbps was not that much more as for bandwidth concerns. In Jan ’09, I had taken a look at my acct online and was looking to make changes. I had contacted the live text support to find out if I made any changes, that my contract would stay the same. My question to the first rep was this, “If I make a upgrade on my services, will my contract be extended?”. Her reply was, “No,your contract will only be extended for any downgrades, not upgrades.” I then chose to ask another live text rep the same question, and recieved a different answer, which was the right answer. Any change to your acct is means for a renew on your contract. That was my first encounter with CW in a dishonest manner. Upon all this is when I found out they had me down for a 2 yr contract, I was livid. I had made a call to customer service to clarify this matter to no avail. They had gone so far to admit to me that the rep that set me up, probably entered the wrong promo code at startup. The rep then asked me to fax a copy of my contract to them. I told him, “that would be lovely, but CW is a paperless company” and that he should know that. I then asked him what he had on his end to say I signed up for 2 yrs? He responded with, “I have nothing on my end to show that”. I grilled him on why would he ask for a paper contract, when the company is paperless. He eventually hung up on me. Now then, in my quest to right a wrong, I have begun the long process of cancelling CW. In doing so, they want $180 from me to cancel a contract I never agreed to. I am and will continue to refuse to pay this amount. I have asked CW to provide me with any proof that I ordered 2yrs, other than what the store rep entered wrongly. After numerous inquiries on various topics concerning my CW acct and services, I have asked every CW rep if they had CW in their home? I wish I could be as dishonest as CW reps are but I cant. Out of 25-30 reps that I have had dialogue with via phone and live text, not one has CW. Thats right, not a single person amongst 25-30 has CW. The best part is the response is always the same, “Unfortunately, it’s not available in my area”. I have talked to reps in 5 states, including corporate offices, yet no one has it in their home. Why? Unlike some folks that use CW, I always had the speeds they were selling me, no complaints there. I have since had RR Turbo put in, at 8mbps for $55/month, compared to 1.5mbps at $37/month or 2mbps at $45/month. Any mind with any logic can see where the true disparity is in all this. If you choose not to abide by all these admissions about CW, and choose them for a ISP, then you most definitely have every intent of allowing yourself to be scammed by them, and deservingly so then. One last thought about CW, do not believe a word the reps say. Do yourself a favor and ask 5 reps the same inquiry and see what answers you get. Example: when I cancelled my acct, I issued a stop-payment on my CC for CW. The phone rep during my cancellation call noticed this and asked me for another CC to charge, I refused his request and asked for alternative methods of payment. He told me that there is no other alternative for payment. I asked him if he was sure and he responded with “100% positive”. I then asked him about the Western Union payment option that I was told about by two other reps from previous phone calls,in which he then hung up on me. My story is no different than others here. I would seriously hope people read these submissions and utilize good thought in making a right decision.Aloha.

Well do I even begin? Initially to start off the idea of a wireless internet sounded great, no wires to run through the house, and I was really sold on the wireless adapter that your child can attach to the x-box, The sales rep was sweet and seems so knowledgeable, WRONG! WRONG! I took them 3 days to get my account signed up and products delivered. I should have known then! when we attached the “so-called” wireless adapter to the x-box it didn’t work, In calling the customer service rep I found out the I not only couldn’t return this so called wireless adapter which was made for a laptop but also I have a 2 year contract and they want $ 180.00 for each service, Now I have the bundle (internet, phone and wireless adapter). $180.00 x 3 = $$$$$. So I told the customer service rep that I wanted to cancel the service, she informed me that I only had 48 hours after I signed up and it had been 3 days. So furious I just hung up. NOW! my phone modem was missing pieces, and I have a wireless adapter I can’t use and I am paying $83.00, thats pretty expensive for just internet! The phone service statics all the time, friends and family don’t even want to talk. Anytime I spoke with customer service they were rude, placed on hold for 30 minutes at a time. Clear View definetly scammed me and I would never recommend this service to anyone. I really think it would be worth me paying $540.00 instead of dealing with these people for 2 years. If you see clearwire run for your life!

I owned a home and bought another home in the same town and moved June of 2009. I had been having problems with my phone service with Clearwire, which they gave me a discount to purchase a cord to move the modem to a new location (I was one mile from site) to improve service, which didn’t help. I was not able to use Clearwire at the new address because there is no service available there. I was charged $240.00 for a contract buy-out, because they couldn’t offer me service and I was under contract. I would never recommend their service for anyone to use.

How is it lawful for this company to advertise one thing, get you into a contract, yet not deliver what you thought you signed up for?

4G is supposed to before faster, yet more stable than 3g, but 4G clearwire is comparable to dial-up service.

    Clearwire does indeed suck.

When I first enrolled with Clear wire (Clear Liar) I was not given a contract to sign, and I asked the rep why there was no contract; he said it was not needed. Like a dummy I thought it was because I was set up on auto debit. I asked him how long the agreement was for, he said one year, that seemed fair; after numerous calls to customer service about my lack of service I was told that my Contract was for Two years and I could find it on their website. I am so mad!!! I gave to put up with this for another year? I can’t afford the early termination fee and I take all of my college courses on line because i have a disability that makes it hard for me to walk. Try taking a timed exam on line when the professor says that if your connection is no good that is not his problem!! Not to mention you cannot use internet tv, radio, You Tube; even signing on to busy business websites can be an exercise in Futility. Customer service is a joke.

Clearwire advertises their 4G service as 6Mbps unlimited use with uncapped speed. yet if you use it to stream video to often you will be automaticly capped down to a crippling 0.25Mbps for a days or weeks. Clearly this is not Unlimited.

I signed on with Clearwire as an alternative to a large cable company that didn’t seem to care about me or my needs. I received good service at my previous residence but not so good after moving to my new home in 2007.

I was contacted about a laptop wireless setup. I was told that I was a good customer and was asked to help evaluate their new product. I wasn’t in a hurry and even loaned my laptop PC to a friend who lives in a remote area to test its effectiveness. When I reported that the device did not work for me, I was surprised to learn that I was committed to a two year contract for a device that does not work.

I contacted Clearwire by email 2 or 3 months ago to let them know that I would not be fooled again and would not renew my contract with them or do business with them ever again.

Now I am overdrawn at the bank with charges that amount to 3 months of double-billed service I have been stuck with for the last 2 years. I will hire an attorney to find out why this company continues to screw a customer who was just trying to get good internet service for a reasonable price. You will not find that at Clearwire.

I think its funny how they advertise that it is HIGH SPEED INTERNET and its not even close. Its also funny how your signal is determined by the amount of lights you have on the modem and no matter what the signal is always gonna be bad ’cause its in the house. They told me it was a 1 year contract when I signed up but when I called them 3 days after i signed up they said it was 2 years. Seriously, they are the biggest rip-offs of all time. NON high-speed internet for $44 a month. What kind of shit is that?

Just cancel your debit or credit card and get a new one. They need permission to take out of your new card. Let them bill you and then send teh bill to their corp office with a letter

I appreciate all the feed back about CW. I was just about to sign up. HOwever, I was concerned about the billing requirements. They said I had to use credit card, and that was the only method of payment. In addition, I would have to sign-up for 2 yr. contract to get cheaper rate. First of all, I have problem with any company wanting to control “you” via credit card. That means that I am force to pay it even if I might have to pay partial payment. I would have no control over that. In addition, they sound to much like Vonage. Another telephone and long distance service that sucks. I am in process of suing them now.

Thanks million to all that posted the truth about CW.

    Sincerely,
    L. Jones

Signed up for account couple years ago, and since lived on top of the hill and next to the tower internet speed was well. Several month ago moved to another location where I had 4 lights on the modem but speed was not faster then dial-up (takes 5 min to download simple 1min video). I put up with it for a while but since they automatically charged my card I never received bill or anything. In march my card expired and they disconnected the service right away and closed my online account. I switched to another company but one month later they call me and say that I have to pay for last month, same month that they disconnected me. Now they call every day several times a day and asking for payment. I dont have a contract with them. How can I sue them, help anyone?

I’ve had clear wire for a year and a half, and this is the first time I had a bad incident with them. I called tech support to get help with my modem and the tech was never able to get the modem to work, so I told them I’d wait until tomorrow to try again. The next day I noticed that my account had been billed for $29.00 by Clearwire. When I called to enquire about it, I was told that a modem had been shipped to my house. I told them I never ordered a modem, and after being put on hold forever, I was told to ship it back and they would refund my money. When I did ship it back they told me they couldn’t find it, and after numerous times of being put on hold, I was finally able to get someone who found the one I shipped back, and was told my money would be back in my account in two days. Two days past and I see a deposit for $5.31, and a second deposit for $13.52. When I called to see where the rest of it was, they told me they were taking out for the original shipping cost to me. You people are dead right when it comes to these clear wire scammers. They are able to make your modem not work at their own will thus allowing them to do this to their customers. When my contract is up, that’s it for me being a clearwire sucker.

ClearWire advertises their internet to be unlimited, however this is not the case. I am currently on the telephone with them on hold for over 35 minutes and all they can say to me is to monitor my modem for 24 hours and it might change. They’re a ridiculous company, thieves, and I am beginning a campaign to expose them.
