Joining the thousand that got bent over by clearwire – User Submission by JC V.

March 2nd, 2009 | by Admin |

During our Christmas shopping trip to Best Buy in December of 2007, we were approached by a clearwire rep., they had a promo special that would take $100 off our purchase if we agreed to try Clearwire. The rep actually looked at a map of our area and told us that is was not available. he also threw in a free i-pod and told us that all we had to do is call in after receiving the box, and we could send it back. It seemed like a good plan, after all, we had seen clearwire commercials and it would appear to be a reputable company. NOT!!!!!!!!!!!
We contacted clearwire and told them we would like to send the box back, they acted like there was not a problem. The box was sent back to them and I thought we were done. Oh was I so very wrong!!! I started noticing charges to my account (yes we were stupid enough to sign up with a debit card). I contacted the bank and they tracked the transactions to clearwire. This is where a full time job began. I contacted clearwire and they reviewed my account, they did admit that we had canceled my account within the specified time period. It gets pretty sleazy from here. The first person I talked with said that the box was in service. I said “perfect”, you should be able to track the user because it was not us, and the box we returned must have been sent out again to another customer. This person quickly transferred me to another customer service person who said that she looked up my account and we had never activated the account but the box was nowhere to be found. She suggested I contact UPS and she would call me back within 24 hour. I contacted the local UPS store and they said that if a package made it to it’s destination, they consider the transaction complete and they do not keep records for this period of time. Yes, we are now in May, as there was a free trial period, and then the payment started coming out of account. When I contacted Clearwire several times they keep telling me that I must return the box or have someone else take over my contract to get out of my own contract. Since I don’t have the box that they admitted to reselling, they wanted to continue billing me monthly or pay $200 to get out of the contract. I told them that since they had already received over $200 in payments for a service I never received I would not pay them another cent and of course had to cancel our debit cards (as suggested by the bank). Now of course they sent my bill to collections, which the amount is over $550. I am sending the collection company this information, as well as the atourney generals office. I ran a credit check on myself and it has not been applied yet. I will keep copies of all information in case it does, so I can send it in to the 3 major credit reporting agencies if this should happen. I HATE CLEARWIRE AND WANT TO THROW SOMETHING AT MY TV WHEN I SEE THEIR COMERCIALS. CLEARWIRE DOES MORE THAN SUCK. IT CREATES A FULL TIME JOB FOR TRYING IT OUT!!!!!

[Update]

In my haste to express my rage against clearwire I posted that I was one of the thousand bent over by clearwire. Let me make myself clear, I mean thousands, and after reading a few more blogs I think this realistically millions. I would sign up for class action lawsuit in a heartbeat. I don’t care that I won’t receive a red cent. If it costs clearwire money I would like THEM to be on the receiving end of being bent over and screwed!!!!!!!!! I HATE CLEARWIRE! and of course CLEARWIRE SUCKS!!!

I am also looking for a lawfirm interested in a CAL. They are trying to charge me $519.67 to cancel…even though I cancelled more than a year ago when their service didn’t work and I had to get a different internet service. I told them I wanted my money back for all the service I paid for but never recieved.
