Clearwire Horror Story – User Submission by Zac B.
January 10th, 2009 | by Admin |I’ll start by saying that I had to rotate the damn modem every single day, and the only place it would work in my computer room is hanging from the ceiling by the cord above a window, even though I was told that I was in between two of their service towers in the proximity of my neighborhood.
Anyway, I was moving from Hawaii back to California, to an area that didn’t have Clearwire service, so of course I needed to cancel it. They gave me the bullshit run around about logging onto Craigslist and finding someone to take over the account, insisting that I do that. I tried to tell them many times that I had the money to pay the outrageous $160 cancellation fee, and was more than willing to pay it to get their stupid modem off my hands. Being in the middle of an out of state move across the Pacific Ocean, the last thing on my mind is trying to find someone to take the f***ing modem.
The bonehead I talked to over the phone didn’t comprehend what I was saying and insisted like there was no tomorrow that I absolutely MUST log onto Craigslist and find somebody. It’s like this idiot is really expecting me to drop everything and search for someone to take the account over. He tells me to call back in a few days if I can’t find anybody. Problem is, everybody I talked to KNOWS as common fact that Clearwire sucks ass and therefore not a single person I asked wanted it. Not even people with no internet connection.
I end up calling back and telling them I couldn’t find anyone that wanted it, and the asshole I talked to told me to call back later because my ad hadn’t been up long enough on Craigslist! Now I’m really pissed because all I want to do is cancel the f***ing service and send their damn modem back to them.
Four more phone calls later, through some divine miracle, I was actually able to cancel the service, and the crackhead on the line told me that they were going to bill me but that the service wouldn’t officially be canceled until they received the modem. Okay fine, whatever. So he asks me for my email address and an alternate so he can send me a f***ing U P f***ing S sticker that I can put on a box and send the damn modem back to hell in. I asked him why he couldn’t just give me a f***ing street address to send the modem to, I didn’t give a rat’s ass if I had to pay a million dollars in shipping out of my own pocket to get rid of the thing. “Why can’t I just take a sharpie and write the address on the box and pay the shipping myself?” He didn’t have an answer. So I give him my two email addresses. Crackhead asks me to chose ONE that I want him to send the UPS sticker to that I am supposed to print out despite the fact that my computer and printer are boxed up and halfway to California via ship! He says I should get it within 24 hours, (as if the nearly six days I already spent dealing with these people wasn’t long enough) and I’m pretty pissed when I don’t see it there 48 hours later after spending my hard earned money at an overpriced internet café just to f***ing please these people.
I call back and I talk over the lady that answered because I’m about in cardiac arrest at having to listen to them drone on in their monotone voices for the millionth time, “Thank you for calling Clearwire, my name is [insert lowlife’s name here] can I get the name and daytime phone number of your account blah blah blah….” I asked to speak to a manager. When she came on the line, I gave her an earful. I told her how f***ing inconvenient her staff makes things for her customers and told her if I can’t get rid of the f***ing g**damn f***ing modem by the time I get on that plane to California, I’m lighting the modem on fire and throwing it in the trash can. She was speechless for a second, and then put on an act like she was truly sorry. Well it seems like Crackhead sent it to the wrong email account, and two more days have passed trying to get rid of this thing. I was wrong to assume these people had more than one functioning brain cell. I mean, after all, he asked me which email account to send it to….
So after going to the internet café a third time and checking my alternate email account it was there. Which means I had to print it out, and then rush like mad to the UPS store (not exactly any place close by) before it closes and the rental car is due. Mind you this is the last possible day I have to get rid of this thing before I move, and I am not taking this f***ing thing on the plane.
So I manage to drop this evil modem at the UPS store in time, I think that is a big burden off my shoulders and I’ll never have to deal with these freaks. EVER. AGAIN.
That was at the end of October. Come December, I start getting “URGENT” phone calls from these bastards saying I owed $160. To top it off, they were going to send this to a collection agency because they said I was delinquent in payment and I had been ignoring their calls. Well, finally I have had enough of their calls and when I call them to ask what the flying rat’s ass f**k they are talking about, I explain that I already cancelled my service, paid the cancellation fee, and sent the modem back. They said “No, it says here you didn’t pay. And we tried to bill your account, but your card was denied.” (Of course it was denied, you braindead f**ks! I MOVED out of state, and switched banks, thus necessitating the issuance of a new card. DUH!) Thank God in Heaven too, because those greedy thieves tried to steal (YES, steal) $160 from me.
So after talking to two air heads and then (finally) an intelligent life form and still not getting anywhere, I talked to a manager through another service rep who said “Oops, yeah that was a mistake. We see your payment here for the cancellation, and we got your modem back. It seems like this was a manual charge. And that means a person charged your account, (THE F***ING ACCOUNT THAT I HAD ALREADY CLOSED!) not a computer. Yes, somebody made a mistake. We’ll forward this to the proper personnel and they’ll get back to you in a few days.”
I’m still waiting. And to think if I hadn’t switched banks that I would have had to go through hell and high water just to get my money back.
To think that they would put $160 in collection that I didn’t even owe in the first place, and in the process ruin my credit, and they all act cavalier like that kind of mistake happens with Clearwire all the time.
So now I have to play the waiting game AGAIN to see if they are going to show at least a vulture’s scrap of integrity and not continue to bother me with charges I don’t owe. To anyone considering Clearwire, just forget it. It sucks so bad.
Sorry to be so profane. I have just had it with these assclowns.
