Clearwire Scam, Pure and Simple – User Submission by Linda B.

December 17th, 2008 | by Admin |

I’m trying to cancel my Clearwire service and have tried talked to Account Services and chatting online. Their people are trained like robots. They just continue to repeat policy that is a true scam.

I purchased Clearwire and have no memory of it being a 2-year account with a cancellation fee. I moved 10 miles and now have no service and they want me to pay them $165 OR resell my account to someone else. Scam, scam, scam. I was told they covered the entire valley I live in. I moved from the largest city to the 2nd largest city, which they do not cover.

When I chatted online I was told there was no supervisor on site at the moment. They repeated I needed to talk to Account Services again and again -by phone. The chat was “Customer Care”….obscure names for who knows what.

Does anyone have a successful way to resolved this?

I’m back to Qwest and their service is much better althought both Qwest and Clearwire claim to be providing the same bandwidth.

I purchased clearwire on a no contract, month to month basis. Was told I had to purchase the modem, which I did. After being on the road so much for my job, I decided not to use clearwire any longer and went with another wireless service. A month after I stopped using clearwire I noticed $40.00 had been debited from my account. I let that slide due to my hectic work schedule and not keeping up with my account as I should. The following month, they debited my card for another $40.00. I called and explained to them that I purchased clearwire on a month to month basis and that I at NO time authorized them to debit my card. After much hemming and hawing and being placed on hold, I was told that debiting customors accounts were standard practice and I had agreed to it when I accepted their terms. I explained that I had purchased my modem and signed up for the no contract, month to month option. They refused to listen and said I could cancel my subscription IF I sold my “contract” to someone else!!! Clearwire is a clear scam and I am thinking about suing them.

I was lured into the Clearwire scam when I bought my new laptop at Best Buy. The salesman promised me a faster internet speed than I currently had and got money knocked off my purchase. I used it for three months and had problems constantly with the speed. Streaming from netflix or other sites was impossible because the feed was being constantly interrupted. It was only after my fourth call to complain that I was informed the only way to get my internet speed faster was to use it less. They explained, as if this was common knowledge, that in order to service all customers they cut the internet speed if you use the service too much. Enraged by the deception I cancelled on the spot. They pretended to cancel my account, but next month I was charged. After calling to complain I was told they couldn’t cancel my account, that I had to go to Best Buy to get it done there. So I did. Best Buy had no idea what they we’re talking about. I cancelled my debit card and reported it as fraud. That was two months ago and I have received three calls a day since from Clearwire’s automated system telling me I need to update my account. This company is a complete scam and needs to be run out of business. They charge high rates, hide their intention to limit your service then don’t let you cancel when you figure out what they are doing.
