Another Former Clearwire Employee – Anonymous User Submission
December 12th, 2008 | by Tim |I worked for an independent contractor of clearwire in Eugene, Or. for about a month. When I started I had been out of work for months and knew nothing about clearwire or isp’s for that matter. Looking back on it now I think that desperation and lack of knowledge about clearwire are the two things they look for in employees right now. Not knowing anything about clearwire gave them free reign to give me all kinds of false information about the terms of service that have given everyone so much hassle. After two weeks of working there I had listen to so many complaints over the phone that I had to do some research of my own about the product. My manager was a big fan of the old “if for any reason you are unhappy with the service, call clearwire within 7 days and they’ll gladly refund your money.” I can see why; it is nearly impossible to get your money back without threatening legal action. My boss would intentionally target those outside of the service area because they were usually the easiest to make the sale to. After finding out all the illegal sales tactics we were being taught to use at clearwire, I quit. The employees that do know what they are doing are in my opinion sick for causing people so much grief.

Man, you ain’t kiddin’. I stay with Clearwire because I believe in WiMAX and wireless broadband as the future of communications but I ready to puke on a daily basis as I watch the hard work of hundreds of techs, marketing people, support reps, and networks folks get wasted and undone by shady sales practices. The company is very vocal about how it is uncompromising when it comes to dishonest or even ambiguous sales practices. However, when you put as much pressure to sell on a salesperson as Clearwire does just about every sales person will lie loudly and with a smile to get someone to sign up.
