Clearwire, it’s hell- User Submission by Zach H.

September 3rd, 2008 | by Admin |

I live out in the sticks here in Central Texas. Until Clearwire came along, my only two options were Dial-Up and ISDN, both of which I had at one point or another. I’ve had Clearwire for going on 3 years now. Unfortunately there is just nothing else I can get out here…. so I get to live with Clearwire.

The service started out great 3 years ago. It was NEVER what they advertised it to be as far as speeds go, but the service was atleast decent… or so I thought. After 6 months the Hell began. I couldn’t play any games due to latency jumps, dropped connections, and throttling of my connection speed which they SWEAR they don’t do. Bittorrent? Yeah, okay… can’t do that either. Youtube? Streaming Videos? No sir, you’re using Clearwire’s bandwidth, they throttle that back too. Downloads? I have the Premium package, the day I see a download that gets over 120KBPS will probably be the day interstellar space travel is invented.

When I’m sitting around drinking a cold one with the buddies, we joke about Clearwire. Why isnt it working today? The grass must be growing…. There must be a cloud in the sky…. A butterfly somewhere spread its wings.. No one ever really knows why it quits working at random.. It just does.

I pay roughly $45 a month for this crap after modem leasing and taxes. Time Warner Cable is $20 a month for the basic package which totally kicks Clearwire’s butt…. Clearwire just uses people like me for money because they know we have no other ISP options.

Sincerely,
Zach H.

Our experiences have been awful. My whole family has paid the price in one way or another. Our signal is always turning completely off, every day, several times a day since we signed up for it over 3 months ago when we moved into our new home.
We can’t upload or down load, the signal always drops. Only twice have I been able to get an email through, it had 514K though of data.
I cannot run my business from home, like they said I could, cannot download movies, artork, upload to my web site or Ebay or anywhere els that I do E-Commerce from.

The phone service is even worse. When it does work, everyone sounds like they are under water and then the signal drops randomly. If I were dying or the house was getting broken into, I would not be able to ring for help. It comes down to this, their service doesn’t just suck, it is dangerous. Not being able to not to call out to 911 when needed or for any help is just down right wrong and illegal. Now, THAT is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

I am canceling my account. We paid over $1500 to Comcast to dig a line out to our house so we can have a real land line and broadband so that I can back to work again.”Clear” has kept our family from being able to work from home, kept my three children from being able to do their homework and using the schools on-line test, references and such. Their grades have suffered, we have had to use other internet sources when in a pinch (very inconvenient and a waste of time/resources) my income has taken a huge hit and we are just miserable.
It has been a total lie, I asked all the questions far before I ordered everything. Should have just paid up earlier for the Comcast.
Thanks for this blog. I would gladly sign any petition. I hope they don’t try to screw me with the cancellation, also. We have certainly suffered enough.Live and learn. This is the new capitolist society we live in. Watch out and check everything online for references before you commit your money to it. I am going to be so much more frugal and diligent from now on about everything. Lesson learned.
