Another unhappy clearwire (ex) customer - User Submission by David Etenburn

June 10th, 2008 | by Tim |

I had to close my bank account just to terminate service with Clearwire. After two months of trying to get tech support’s attention, with long hold times resulting in disconnections, I finally returned the modem to where I purchased it, where it was refused. Once again, I call clearwire with no success, but after a few more days, their collection department called me! It seemed they could not collect money from my bank account because it was closed (imagine that, my bank was smart enough to say no to clearwire!)

So now I have two months fees (for a service I have been trying to cancel), a late fee, a return check fee, and an early termination fee. About $300 I’m figuring. I actually don’t know the total “balance”, as I have effective today blacklisted clearwire’s e-mails, and I have already blocked their computer generated calls. The way I look at it, if they can convince a court or arbiter I owe the money, I’ll pay it. But I doubt they can.

I recently took over an account that a friend had because he is moving to a state where clearwire is not available. My friend had 2 modems on the account and I agreed to take one. It’s been a little over a month now and clearwire has not corrected the change of responsibility correctly. To top everything, they told me that I would have a month free since I was taking over the service. Well, I was wrong. Not only did they charge me, they charged me for 2 modems which was incorrect. Since they(clearwire), charged my account when they were NOT suppose to, it caused my checking account to go overdrawn. After a few day’s of explaining to several different Rep’s. I finally got to someone that was actually helpful. They credited my account b/c it specifically stated one free month. That’s great… well, there’s more! Since my account was overdrawn, and it was clearwire’s fault for accidently charging my account, they will not cover the overdraft fees that I had to pay. Clearwire is NOT taking responsibility that they screwed up. It is not fair for me or anyone to pay these fees due to clearwires stupidity. I knew that I was receiving a free month so I did not deposit any money into the account. Its been a hassle since day one and now I lose out about $175 in overdraft fees for clearwires mistake. Some of the customer service people are good but the others I have spoken to didn’t actually give a crap… The service was great, but now its been a couple of weeks and my service goes in and out. I kinda feel stupid now for even giving this company a try. I guess “cheap” monthly service fees really explains itself…
