i can't get service! I moved less than 1/2 mile and cannot get on line I have had the account not even 2 months. First I had problems with internet phone and now no signal. Why should I crawl ontop of the roof to get a signal when their tower is less than 4 blocks from my house???? And to be spoken to as if I was a stupid brainless one cell fungus that did it! I am canceling account and lets go to court for the next 2 years of my contract

I have clearwire and vonga and they will both do you in. The Fcc has no control over these company because they are internet based unlike timewarren who has to answer to a high authority. Things has to changes if the consumer is going to get a break with all the foolishes that I had to endure. I hop the lawsuit work out. Very well.

BBB tomorrow, State's Attorney General on Monday and small claims on Tuesday. There's got to be laws against companies taking money for services they can't or won't deliver then charging fees when you leave. Any help on class action law suits would also be appreciated. Went to http://www.hbsslaw.com/ but didn't find any helpful info there. This kind of business model should not be allowed to continue to rip people off- period.

Wow! Thought I was hearing things when I was trying to cancel my service. I have never heard of anything so unethical as Clearwire. I have just begun my battle but I started by reporting them to the BBB and would be very happy to join any lawsuit. I will also spread the word as I was warned by a couple of people I from work before I called to cancel that I would have trouble. Boy was that an understatement! Is this legal?

Same story... Now I need to pay 200$ fee. If the connection was good like they promised, and I was stupid enough to sign 2 years contract, but I still want to cancel service before my contract expire I wouldn't complain. But my internet is so bad that I can't even use Skype. How is possible that company like Clearwire still exist and ripping-off people day after day? Is there anything that we can do about that?

I'd be very interested to hear of any class-action suit. I posted my horrid experience on this site today. I have honestly never dealt with a company as bad as this- and, these days, that's saying a lot!!

It seems that, unlike most of you, I chose to read through all the bullshit before signing up. I am currently using Clearwire, as it is quite literally the only service available in the area. I signed up on a month to month basis with the knowledge that I would have to deal with it for 9 months. Purchasing the modem and paying per month for 8/9 months not only works out to be cheaper than a year contract, but since I don't have a "plan", there's no early termination to worry about.

The connection speeds range from decent to terrible. The speeds are of course no where near what I'd like, but when it seems to be working, it suffices. A 1.5mb connection with average of 120kb/sec down. I can live with that.

However, after about 11am and on to 1am in the morning, the speed becomes erratic. One second I'll be browsing the web or playing a game without issue, the next, I'll be dropping from the server or having to wait several minutes for even google to load.

SpeedTest at these times confirm my suspicions as it gets down into near dial-up speeds.

Overall, I am not satisfied, but when there is literally no other option, you'll put up with more than you should.

As we all know, the only people who win in a class-action suite is the lawyers. But that's fine with me.

I was expecting a possible job offer teaching overseas when I applied for Clearwire. I asked whether I would have to pay the early termination fee if I took the 2 year contract or should I take the monthly? They said if I moved out of the service area, no disconnect fee...so I did the contract. Two months later, I got the job, took the modem back and was informed that I would have to pay the disconnect fee or they could "hibernate" my account for a year. Not much choice there, so I chose to hibernate it. Turned out they continued to charge my account and I accrued $200 in bounce charges. With the BBB filing I was able to get back the monthly charges, but not the bounce charges. A year later I'm still in Korea and they have started charging my account again. I email to stop my account and they tell me to call an 888 number. I say I cannot call an 888 number, please give me an area code number. They ignore my email. I have my brother in the US call them to cancel and they give him the runaround by asking him what telephone number the account is under. So I'm back to filing with the BBB and wrote a letter to Washington's Governor. I am mad as hell at these lieing cheating swindlers and would be happy to join a class action suit.

Well, I just learned that internet terrorism truly begins at home, with Clearwire. The fact that a company that provides such a poor quality of service can be so arrogant as to selectively slow down my connection even more, to punish my family for using the internet, and then threaten to disconnect us if we continue to violate their TOS is beyond belief.
After receiving a threatening email from them telling me I needed to call them IMMEDIATELY, I ended up being on hold for an hour and 45 minutes. Then, they can't tell me specifically what web site(s) or what actions occurred to cause the so called infraction, but if it continues, they can disconnect me and charge an early termination fee. How am I supposed to control what they can’t define? I have 4 teenagers in the house. They are using the internet for all the same sites that every other teenager in America is using it for.
I also work for a major defense contractor and work from home three days a week. I frequently use email to support our field service representatives, supporting the US Army and Marines, stationed in Iraq, Afghanistan, and other military installations world wide. Now I have to deal with threats from people acting like the Clearwire internet Nazis, for using a lousy service, that I’m paying for?
Well, I drive around my town a lot. I’m putting stickers on my car and van that Clearly reads WWW.CLEARWIRESUCKS.COM. I hope some of you will do the same.

WOW, I thought I was rather alone in all of this. So my story starts last December with a sales rep at a mall, I ask how fast it is, he state and I have witness to this, "1.5 megaBYTES per second" i ask him to clarify, and make sure he did not mean megaBITS, he got a irritated look on his face and stated it was infact megabytets. Most internet badwidth is measured in kilobits and average signal is 1500kilobits or 1.5megabits. 1.5 megabytes is about 8x time more than 1.5 megabits(8 bits = 1 byte, to help the reader understand the rant, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bit if your are interested). So a mind blowing internet connection of 12,000 kilobits is quite alluring for $34-ish a month. But like most sales reps, they are retards try to sell you a bridge. I had his associate also back up the claim and even use wikipedia to make sure there megabit vs megabyte quote was legit. they both assured me it was 1.5megaBYTES! so I was rather happy, I went home broke it out and got on line. A few days had passed and it did not seem really that fast, so I called in to the tech support, which at that time was 24hr. They told me to run a speedtest at www.speedtest.net, i was getting about 657k down, 232k up and a ping of 780 all based on an average of 3 tests. I ask what the average speed was the tech said about 1100kiloBITS. 1100kilobits is very short of the 1.5megaBYTES the rep said i would get, about 10900K short! i stated that the rep clearly stated that i would get a max of 1.5megaBYTES, the tech laugh, I said that simply misunderstood the rep, i need to know more about computers, and that no isp will deliver anything that fast, and in fact that clearwire was one of the fastest isp in the area. 15+ years of building computers, is not enough? wow. anyway I reset my modem turn it of jumped up and down, barked, was ask about every component in my computer, the os, if it passed ms genuine windows certification. All the specs were in order and my computer as always was and is in perfect condition. in the end i got it above 1100k so the situation is resolved. the next day, my speed was again bottoming out. i called in got another smart ass tech that basically called me a retard, i hung up. I waited and called back later on, I was straight with the guy and stated that my computer was in perfect form i did not need to do any weird shit to make it up to specs with clearwire.I asked him to help me get their product to function within the advertised speeds. he tried and nothing worked for long. so after some battle i finally get a tech that heard what i was saying and we came to an understanding about what was up. so he kept helping me, eventually he stated that I was in a situation were the performance was not to par and I was in no way abusing the service, so I was offered an early termination fee or free service until the issue can be resolved as save tactic. I took the free service, of course, I still called in when it was sub-par service, and everyone started to help me more. one day out of the blue they charged me. I keep my money sorted out in my account strategically, the account they pulled it from had $5 in it so 5 - 34 = -39 + a $40 nsf charge, so $74 dollars later... I was pissed, cuz I was not even in state. I called in and just snapped on the tech and the following accountant. I demanded a complete refund of the charge and an explanation to my bank. they did and it took a week. well the story goes I am rather done with clearwire and there circus of charging for their black lump of plastic the that blinks and take up space, and sometimes, maybe, provides an internet connection. AHHH another note, they keep trying to tell me that that vaporous WIMAX technology is right around the corner, and it deliver 30,000k connection for the same price so just hang in there. IT keeps getting bumped, again and again, it will in my mind never be available, or it will come but when it does they will have pissed off everyone who may have been interested. So bottom line the Clearwire Corporation is all about money and More money, they might feel gracious enough provide service when they want, but were is the money in that. F@#$ THEM, smoke signals would work better, than clearshit.

WOW, I thought I was rather alone in all of this. So my story starts last December with a sales rep at a mall, I ask how fast it is, he state and I have witness to this, “1.5 megaBYTES per second” i ask him to clarify, and make sure he did not mean megaBITS, he got a irritated look on his face and stated it was infact megabytets. They told me to run a speedtest at http://www.speedtest.net, i was getting about 657k down, 232k up and a ping of 780 all based on an average of 3 tests.
Just wondering if you have heard anything on a lawsuit. I was just informed I was "automatically signed up for a new contract and I am livid to say the least. This is down right criminal!

When I closed my clearwire account (which was the most positive thing about ny association with clearwire), they told me of the $190.00 early account termination fee. Natually I balked and they graciously settled for $80.00 and I did not even negotiate with them.

I am so happy to be rid of them

I want in on the lawsuit too. I was misled about the service and don't remember "signing" a contract (I guess the guy who very assertively came in my home to sign me up did). The service never worked properly and they are charging me for early termination. I have now read the TOS and it is so unethically worded it should not be legally enforceable.

Wow---CLEARWIRE IS SNEAKY. READ THE CONTRACT.

I WILL NEVER BE A CLEARWIRE SUCKER. Here is my sstory. One day I noticed a Clearwire truck parked in front of my house. It was there for hours. I saw a man inside using a noteboook computer. It came back at night for more hours. This went on for weeks. It had a special antenna mounted on it the moved around pointing down the street. One day, I looked it up in the phone book to see what Clearwire was---they said a wireless ISP.

Well when the truck came back I thought it was here to install service. I walked across the street and introduced myself. I wanted to learn how much the service costs. The man inside was laughing almost crying. He was reading customers email---you could see them on his computer while he was reading. he told me that thtas what the writing was---someone elses email. Well, it could have been mine he was reading! That sucks! Anyway he said that I had several emails that were using too much email and internet and he wanted to know why. I asked if it was illegal to use email on Clearwire and he said email was only supposed to be for short messages. I asked him about what happens and he said we will cut him off, but first I need to collect evidence. Well if he is using too much service why dont you just cut him off instead of reading all his private information. "Thats not the way we do it". The man bragged that the Clearwire terms of service allowed them to do ANYTHING, including download spy ware on their comouters even if they used the comouter with another ISP. He was very proud of the ability to snoop. He laughed again and said you should read this shit people do with email! "Our TOS lets us do anything we want." TOS means Terms Of Service. I asked him if he had Clearwire and he told me "HELL NO".
