Horrible Experience With Clearwire
August 26th, 2007 | by Tim |I still have a Clearwire account, unfortunately. My family and I moved to another state for job reasons and had renewed a one-year contract prior to ever knowing about our need to move. Clearwire will not let us out of the contract even though due to Clearwire’s lack of coverage, we can not get any coverage where we live now. Clearwire does not offer coverage anywhere in the state that I now reside in.
I spoke to a customer service supervisor for at least 30 minutes and he could have cared less. He told me that the move was my decision and not Clearwire’s fault. I could either keep the contract for the duration of the one-year agreement or pay the early termination fee of $130. He could not offer any other alternatives. He indirectly acknowledged that Clearwire supervisors have no authority or discretion, hence no supervisory power.
I would advise anyone considering doing business with Clearwire to consider another ISP. Please do not support companies with such poor customer service.
Oh, and with regard to anyone who feels threatened to post materials regarding their own personal opinions about Clearwire service and how Clearwire treats others, here is some important law.
1. As long as what you express is your OPINION, and not stated as assertion of fact, it is a defense to a legal claim of defamation.
2. TRUTH is an absolute defense to defamation. If what you stated is true, it exempts you from any legal claim of defamation. If you were brought to court to defend yourself, you could present witness after witness before open court to testify as to how they experienced what you stated and asserted as factually true.
My opinion of Clearwire is just as the domain name of the web site suggests…Clearwire sucks!

I also have had a similar experience. We had a slick sales rep!! We knew that we were going to be moving to a different city over the summer, and when I asked her if Clearwire covered that area, she said that she believed that Clearwire was going to be in that area soon, but if they weren’t, we would not be charge an Early Termination Fee. Yep…you guessed it. We moved in the summer, and no, they didn’t have service there.
I have called and wasted over 3 hours on the phone talking to various managers and “account specialists”. Finally I spoke to a specialist who said that she would waive the fee if I would mail in the modem after she sent me the UPS label. Dumbly…I agreed. Well…three weeks later, $200.00 came out of our checking account. I FLIPPED!!! I called Clearwire once again, and after sitting on hold for another hour to talk to another manager, this manger told me that the last manager didn’t have the authority to waive the Early Termination Fee, so they charged me after all. CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!!!
Well…I contacted the Better Business Bureau and have started a claim. I’m not sure what will come of that, but as I’m reading here, this is not the first this has happened. I will also tell anyone interested in Clearwire that this company is not reputable, reliable, and their customer service is the worst in the business.

My family and I moved from fla. to s.c. where there is no clearwire service and I received the same sorry treatment. I now am consulting with an attorney because they refuse to or are incapable of applying the early termination fee they’ve charged me and I have paid.I have received at least 20 automated calls telling me I owe money. I have talked to supervisors and have sent copies of my bank statements and they still can’t get it right. Quite amazing for a communications company.

They charged me 180.00 to cancle. The service never worked but intermittently. I had to power cycle off and on at least 10 times a day. It got so tiresome. They sent out a tech who was extremely rude and spoke to me as if I was trash when I complained that his fixes did not work. When I tried to reason that I should be let out of the contract because they were failing to provide the service, customer service revelaed to me that the do not guarantee ANY minimum speed whatsoever. The company is truely a looser. It will fade out after it has worked its way around enough people for the word to get out.

I specifically asked when I signed up if I moved out of the country would I be able to get out of the contract - no problem if you move out of the US. Of course, a year and a half later, and they are saying I’m sorry someone told you that - you owe 180.00.
When they came over to install the unit (they did several in our building, so the guy offered to set it up), it didn’t even get service in my apartment. That didn’t matter either. He thought I should keep my window open when I wanted to use the internet.
I hate being lied to worse than anything - this makes me soooo mad.

Have clearwire in Killeen/Fort Hood, TX. Was told that if I deployed and moved my family that they would not allow me to use the military clause. They told me I would have to pay to get out of the contract. They are the only company in this area that does that. Even Sprint will let you out of your contract if you deploy.
Also, I was downloading from Peer to Peer sharing one weekend when we went out of town. It was a big download so I let it DL while we were gone hoping that it would be done when I got back. When I got back it was not done and my internet was running real slow. What would have taken 4 hours w/ DSL was taking 2 weeks w/ Clearcrap. Finally I called them and they told me that since I was using too much bandwidth that they sent a truck to my area and remotely shut down my speed to 56K w/out calling me. They told me they sent an email me to my clearwire account which I had no idea that existed. They told me that they had it in the contract that they had the right to do it. I finally found where is was in the contract about 2 hours after searching their website. Bad service…

DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME WITH CLEARWIRE SPEND A LITTLE EXTRA AND GO TO COMCAST OR A COMPANY THAT IS WELL ESTABLISHED THAT CAN GIVE YOU DEFINITE SIGNAL STRENGTH.
