Tried to cancel… they said “No, No, No”!
August 19th, 2007 | by Admin |I have had clearwire in my possession for 9 days and had only used it for about 24 hours at the most. The first grade drawing of the coverage map area in Richmond , Va. on their brochure is just that. The coverage is spotty at best. I tried to cancel and asked them to look at my log but to no avail after speaking to 2 operators they wanted to charge me $200.00. They said I had it since August 3rd, 2007 but they sent the modem to the wrong address. I actually didn’t get it and fire it up until the evening of the 7th. I use this for different locations on the weekend for my job. I have comcast at home so there is no use using this at my “service address”. 4 venues and no signal as the map shows there is coverage. Even when you type in the address on their website it shows coverage but there is none. The modem just scans for a signal and never stops. This is a rip off. Customers can’t figure in 7 days if this is going to work for them or not. Clearwire definitely is a rip off to consumers.

UPDATE: After having the unit in my posession for seven days and calling Clearwire, I gave them three addresses in which on their coverage map shows they have coverage. Neither of these addresses have coverage. I plugged tha addys in the “Clearwire service thingy” and it said it had service there. Had a Clearwire tech in the Richmond area call me and ask about the locations. Haven’t heard back from them since then (as of today, 9/5/07). Of course they have already charged me for a months service. I have been on the phone and e-mail trying to find an address to send them paper service so I can file a case to cancel my subscription. Of course If I wanted to get clearwire today they are johnny on the spot. But since I want to cancel and take them to court to show proof to the judge their “coverage area is very vague” at best. I need to also subpoena my log records which shows how little or not at all the modem was used. Wished I was able to get that info myself easily from the modem. No one has returned my e-mails nor calls as where to send paper service.
Hopefully people in Richmond va will google “Richmond va clearwire”…. I hope they find my site ( it’s on the first page) and call me, I’ll tell them the great service I get from Clearwire.

They are awful! My daugter graduated from VCU, went into the Peace Corps. She talked to them before she left about what to do with the equipment and she paid through the end of her term of agreement. When I called to ask them to send the shipping label to HER email account they said that they couldn’t, so I will have to get her to call from MOLDOVA (on the other side of the world!). I see why so many people are unsatisfied with them and I told them so. I would not recommend them to anyone!!!!

Clearwire is absolutely terrible. Customer service is terrible and their return policy sucks. Don’t ever get involved with clearwire!

I have to jump on the bandwagon. They just got me for another month by not telling me that I had to send their modem back. Then tried to tell me that I should try to find someone to take it over since I already paid for the month any way. RIP OFF Indeed!!!

My wife and I are in the process of moving to Orlando, Florida from Washington State. We’ve had Clearwire here for several months and the connectivity is spotty at best. Anyhow, we attempted to cancel service because Clearwire is not available in Orlando and the customer service representative said my only option was to pay off the contract (15 months left) or to list my Clearwire service on a website such as Craigslist or Ebay in hopes somebody would buy the remaining contract. I personally will never do business with Clearwire again. They are not willing to budge even for a life changing event such as moving to an area where their service is not available.

Don’t cancel your bank card! They’ll refer your indebtedness to a collection agency after not paying for 60 days and it will appear on your credit report almost instantly. Clearwire is absolutely the worst internet service provider I’ve ever encountered. We moved from Seattle to Camano Island where there is no service available and they told us the same thing; to put our service on Ebay or Craigslist so some other sucker like me would get sucked into this garbage. Customer service is terrible and takes forever to talk to a live human being. Clearwire knew that people would be trapped into this 2 years ago when they were pushing their 2 year agreements through Best Buy. Seemed like a great idea at the time when we lived in Seattle but now that were in a place where there’s no service, Clearwire acts like it’s just our problem, so just deal with it. Terrible! Steer clear of this service!

Clearwire told me to sell it on craigs list. I was just so frustrated that i hung up. Their service is horrible and I have called tech support and they dont know what they are doing either.

They tell you to do that as a way to get out of the ETF. If you can find someone on Craigslist to agree to a change of responsibility (say, somebody who wants it but couldn’t pass the credit check and couldn’t afford to buy the modem outright) then you can transfer your account to them and walk away clean. It’s stupid.

I was employed by a company in Atlanta that sold Clearwire, and I never recieved commission nor my pay for selling it. The management gave me the run arounds about it. Please contact me with legal aspects, for I do know of others that are selling it still

I tried to post an add on Craigslist as recommended each (they talked me into keeping it three times) time I tried to cancel. I finally did and my add was flagged and removed by Craigslist (summarized below).

“Your ad is a violation of section 7 paragraph J… Help us to clean up Craigslist. Notify your Clearwire representative that advising customers to spam Craigslist is not an acceptable policy. You might suggest that a new procedure for cancellations would be a more astute option. (It is probably never a good idea to attempt conscription of salespeople from an existing customer database.)
If you are unsatisfied with your service provider’s response, or policy on cancellations, you might want to file a complaint with your state Attorney General’s office.”

Clearwire is a ripoff! I tried for 3 days to cancel my service and they wouldn”t let me. Then they told me they were going to take $200 out of my account if i canceled but still wouldn”t let me cancel. I didn”t even use it (when it would work) for 3 weeks. They told me even with my service cut off after not paying for the crap that i was still being charged every month. Don”t get trapped like i did!

DON’T BE FOOLED! CLEARWIRE = FRAUD
I have had clearwire for less than a month and have had absolutely horrid service. They claim to provide a service that they cannot deliver. I went to the clearwire website to check out their plans and there was a place to check availability of service so I entered my address and the web site came back with a response of:
“we apologize but service is not available in your area at the moment but we can keep your information and contact you when we it becomes available in your area.”
We decided to go and check out the clearwire store since it was close to a grocery store that we had just been at and the sales rep was very friendly and talked us into looking over the plans. He then asked us for our address to see if service was available in our area (I went ahead and did as he asked knowing that I had already checked it out online and did not need to worry about it.) Thirty seconds later he told us that our address was completely in the “green” and that there was great coverage in our area.
I convinced myself that there might have been a glitch on the clear wire website that made our address come out in the red, so we decided to try it as it is extremely easy to set up and install.
BIG MISTAKE…service is horrible and spotty at best. It was barely capable of allowing us to just web browse. We specifically let the sales rep know what we wanted to service to be able to do and we were told that it would be able to accommodate. We are currently getting the run around and getting knowhere when trying to return the service.
STAY AWAY FROM THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I read the contract and decided to cancel. I would strongly advise that you do not sign their contract, in doing so you give them permission to send you robot – pre recorded calls about new services on your cell phone or otherwise, the ability to charge you attorney fees for matters which are not your fault, you may not be a party to any class action suit even if they’re found to have caused you damages, there is an arbitration provision then do not advise you about in advance.
In short, they thrust this very complicated contract you at the last second. they will not allow you to see the contract in advance. That alone should be a warning sign.
Yes, I am an attorney and accountant.

I don’t know what to do. I have had clear for over two years and they keep renewing my contract every time I move or call for something. They don’t ask or say anything, I found out because I tried to cancel, yet again, and she told me I would have to pay. I have not been in their service area for almost 7 months and have not used the modem in 4 months (I was catching a signal from somewhere). They will not even let me cancel when they don’t have service in this area yet.One time I called, a guy told me I wasn’t in the coverage area and I could cancel. I decided to keep it because I couldn’t do anything else and I got a weak signal. BIG MISTAKE! Should have cancelled when I had the chance. Does anyone know what can be done?

Just got off the phone with those ass clowns. Spent about an hour on the phone only to find out (what I had suspected) that there are a lot of people using the internet in my area right now, so it is slow. Bullshit.
